Daniel Bassi

Daniel Joshua Bassi Jakobsen (born 31 October 2004) is a Norwegian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Bodø/Glimt.

Key Information

Early life

[edit]

Bassi initially grew up in Oslo, playing childhood football for Lille Tøyen FK. His father is Norwegian and his mother Sierra Leonean. In 2015 his family moved to Tromsø, and Bassi joined the youth section of Tromsø IL.[1]

Club career

[edit]

Bassi made his senior debut for Tromsø in June 2022, in an early leg of the 2022-23 Norwegian Football Cup against Skjervøy. He made his Eliteserien debut in April 2023 at home against Viking.[2] Tromsø's assistant manager compared Bassi to August Mikkelsen, and after Mikkelsen was sold in 2023, Bassi eventually made his breakthrough on the first team.[1] He attracted attention from foreign clubs.[3] Daniel didn't suceed immediately after his move to Bodø/Glimt in August 2023, and was kept out for the whole of the 2024 season with injury. In 2025, he has been a way more dominant force, scoring and assisting in the League game against Strømsgodset, and becoming the first ever Champions League scorer for Bodø/Glimt, when he netted the first in the 2-2 draw versus Slavia Prague. Bassi is famous for his abilities one against one, and has the record for being the fastest player in Bodø/Glimt's history – 36.9 km per hour. Only Jalal Abdullai at Molde has registered a higher pace in Eliteserien.

International career

[edit]

Without having prior experience as a Norway youth international,[2] Bassi was selected for the Norway U19 squad to participate in the 2023 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.[4] [2] Bassi also played two games for Norway U20 in 2023 – a 5-0 win over Rumania and a 2-1 win versus the Czech Republic. In 2025 he returned to international duty with Norway U21, beating Denmark 1-0 in a friendly, and hammering Slovenia 5-0 in the first round Euro Qualifier. Bassi scored the second goal in the game and assisted another.[5]
