Plot

[edit]

Nandkumar 'Nandu' Sharma, an assassin, and his gateway partner Shekhar are hired by Anna Mhatre, an opposition leader, for an assassination attempt on Mhatre during one of his political party meetings in hopes of garnering sympathy votes. On the day of the hit, Mhatre gets shot dead by someone, and Shekhar also dies in an accident. Nandu jumps off the building onto a train and meets Puran Singh, who is returning to his village Chambela in Hoshiarpur after running away many years ago. At Valsad, the cops spot Nandu and fire at him, but accidentally kill Puran instead.

Nandu escapes in the ensuing confusion and arrives at Chambela to inform Puran's death to the family. Thinking that Nandu is Puran, the latter's family rejoices at his return. Nandu grows closer to the family and solves many of their problems. Nandu also falls in love with Preet Kaur, Puran's childhood friend. Nandu also reveals his real identity to Guru, Puran's old friend. Meanwhile, Nandkumar Rane, a CBI officer, is handed the case of Mhatre's murder. His investigation leads him to Chambela, and he becomes suspicious of Nandu. Using a clue from Savte, Nandu and Shekhar's mentor, in prison, Rane traces the payment made to Nandu back to Chambela.

Nandu flees before Rane's arrival, and Rane informs Puran's death to the family. After Rane and his team leave, everyone believes Nandu has cheated them, but Guru tells everyone all the good deeds Nandu has done for the family. Nandu returns and confesses his true identity. He claims not to have cheated the family. Puran's grandfather tells Nandu that rather than flee the scene of the crime, Nandu came to them and solved their problems, and hence he considers him as Puran. He encourages him to seek justice. Nandu calls Joshi, the CM candidate, and blackmails him with the recording of their earlier conversation.

Joshi tells him that Shekhar, who is alive, had killed Mhatre. He had framed Nandu for the crime and also faked his death. Nandu records the entire phone call as evidence. Nandu finds Shekhar, but both are attacked by corrupt cops sent to kill them and take back the tape. Nandu kills them and fights Shekhar, who dies. Rane arrives and is handed the tape by Nandu as evidence. When Rane confronts Joshi with the evidence, Joshi tells him that the court won't convict him, but Rane says that Mhatre's son will kill him when he hears the tape. Cornered, Joshi commits suicide, thereby closing the case.

Nandu immerses in Puran's ashes and meets Rane, who tells him that Mhatre's killer died in an accident and the man behind the conspiracy committed suicide, and he lets Nandu go as Puran. Nandu then leaves for Chambela to begin his new journey.
