Stable's last months and Dissolution (June–July 2024)

[edit]

At Noah Grand Ship In Yokohama on June 16, 2024, Jake Lee, Yo-Hey and Tadasuke defeated All Rebellion (Kenoh, Alejandro and Cristobal), and Jack Morris and Anthony Greene dropped the GHC Tag Team Championship to Naomichi Marufuji and Takashi Sugiura.[23] During the event, Jake Lee announced that the stable would disband one month later at Noah Destination 2024 on July 13. In this event, one half of the Good Looking Guys (Jake Lee, Yo-Hey and Tadasuke) defeated the other half of the Good Looking Guys (Jack Morris, Anthony Greene and LJ Cleary) in the stable's last match. After it was all over, Gedo, on behalf of Bullet Club's leader David Finlay, presented Lee with a Bullet Club War Dogs shirt as an invitation to become a full time member of the stable, which Lee instantly accepted. This led to the entire crowd become shocked as well as Lee's former teammates. Jack Morris, particularly, got upset at him for his decision and got in his face, which led him to be chokeslammed by Lee for that. After that, the former members of the stable rushed in to check on Morris, while Lee grabbed a mic and sarcastically bid NOAH goodbye, leaving with Gedo maniacally laughing.

New Japan Pro Wrestling (2024)

[edit]

Due to NJPW and Pro Wrestling Noah holding business partnerships, various of the stable's members competed at All Together, a cross-over event produced by United Japan Pro-Wrestling. On the May 6, 2024 show, Jake Lee teamed up with Bullet Club's David Finlay and Gabe Kidd to defeat Los Ingobernables De Japon (Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi and Yota Tsuji).[24] On the June 15, 2024 show, Jack Morris, Anthony Greene and LJ Cleary teamed up with Bullet Club's Clark Connors and Drilla Moloney in a losing effort against Los Ingobernables de Japon (Shingo Takagi, Bushi, Hiromu Takahashi, Titán and Yota Tsuji), and Jake Lee fell short to Tetsuya Naito in the main event.[25]

The Good Looking Guys (often abbreviated as GLG or G.L.G.) was a professional wrestling stable in Pro Wrestling Noah, active from 2023 to 2024. Led by Jake Lee, it was initially formed as a trio with Jack Morris and Anthony Greene on January 19, 2023, and later expanded to include additional members such as Tadasuke, YO-HEY, and LJ Cleary.[1] The group achieved success in Noah's championships before dissolving on July 13, 2024, following Jake Lee's departure to New Japan Pro-Wrestling.[2]

History

Formation and early development (2023)

Jake Lee made his debut in Pro Wrestling Noah on January 1, 2023, at the promotion's New Year event held at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, where he interrupted a match and aligned himself with Jack Morris, signaling the beginnings of a new alliance.[3][4] This partnership was formalized shortly after, with the duo teaming up for the first time on January 8, 2023, at a Korakuen Hall event, defeating opponents in a tag team match that highlighted their shared charismatic style.[5] Anthony Greene joined them soon thereafter, completing the initial trio. The stable, named Good Looking Guys (GLG), officially debuted as a unit on January 22, 2023, at the Great Muta Final "Bye-Bye" event in Yokohama, where Lee, Morris, and Greene defeated Daiki Inaba, Masa Kitamiya, and Yoshiki Inamura in a six-man tag team match.[6] Under Lee's leadership, GLG adopted a "good looking" theme, portraying themselves as a heel faction of attractive, confident wrestlers who used their charisma and aesthetics to antagonize opponents and fans alike.[7] This positioning served as a direct counter to established groups like Just 5 Guys, emphasizing style and swagger over traditional power-based alliances in Noah's landscape.[3] In the ensuing weeks, GLG engaged in early storylines focused on asserting dominance through multi-man tags and individual showcases, with Lee and Morris securing a tag team victory over GHC Heavyweight Champion Kaito Kiyomiya and Yoshiki Inamura on February 4, 2023, at Sunny Voyage in Tokyo.[8] By March 2023, during events like the March 14 Sunny Voyage tour stop in Niigata, the group began dropping hints of potential recruitment, teasing alliances with other Noah talents to bolster their ranks amid rising rivalries.[9] These developments solidified GLG's role as a disruptive force in Noah's heavyweight division.

Peak under Jake Lee's leadership (2023)

Under Jake Lee's leadership, Good Looking Guys (GLG) reached its zenith in 2023 as Pro Wrestling Noah's dominant heel faction, marked by key championship acquisitions and aggressive expansion. On March 19, 2023, at Great Voyage 2023 in Yokohama, Lee defeated Kaito Kiyomiya to capture the GHC Heavyweight Championship in his debut title challenge, ending Kiyomiya's 181-day reign and cementing Lee's status as the stable's undisputed leader.[3] Immediately following the match, Tadasuke and YO-HEY—former members of the Noah Junior Regulars—betrayed their allies and aligned with GLG, expanding the unit to five members and injecting fresh junior heavyweight firepower into the group.[3] This defection ignited intense rivalries, positioning GLG as Noah's premier antagonistic force against established stables like Kongo and the remnants of the Junior Regulars.[2] The stable's momentum built through sustained title pursuits across divisions. On April 16, 2023, at Green Journey 2023 in Sendai, Tadasuke and YO-HEY dethroned Stinger's Yoshinari Ogawa and Eita to claim the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, embarking on a 67-day reign highlighted by successful defenses, including a victory over Los Golpeadores (Alpha Wolf and Dragon Bane) on April 29 at Star Navigation 2023.[10][11] Complementing this, Jack Morris and Anthony Greene seized the GHC Tag Team Championship on September 24, 2023, at Grand Ship In Nagoya 2023, defeating Real (Timothy Thatcher and Saxon Huxley) in a hard-fought contest to launch a 266-day run as champions.[12][13] These victories underscored GLG's multi-tiered dominance, with Lee defending his heavyweight title against challengers like Katsuhiko Nakajima, fueling ongoing feuds that portrayed the stable as an unrelenting threat to Noah's hierarchy.[2] Throughout 2023, GLG's heel persona—characterized by charisma, betrayal, and stylish aggression—propelled major storylines, including clashes with Kongo over Lee's title reign and junior rivalries against Stinger and Los Golpeadores for the tag belts.[2] The faction's control of three GHC championships simultaneously exemplified their peak influence, drawing strong crowd reactions and elevating Noah's booking around their disruptive narrative.[12]

Expansion and challenges (2024)

In early 2024, Good Looking Guys (GLG) sought to broaden its influence beyond Pro Wrestling Noah through strategic recruitment and cross-promotional ventures. On October 9, 2023, LJ Cleary officially joined the stable during a Monday Magic episode, turning on his tag partner Ryohei Oiwa to align with Anthony Greene and Jake Lee in a tag match victory, a move that bolstered GLG's roster depth and carried into joint appearances throughout the year.[14][15] Cleary's addition facilitated greater international representation, particularly in Noah's expanding partnerships. A pivotal achievement came on October 28, 2023, when Jack Morris captured the GHC National Championship from El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. at Demolition Stage in Fukuoka via an Avalanche Tiger Driver, marking his first singles title in Noah and elevating GLG's midcard presence.[16][17] Morris defended the title successfully three times in 2024, including victories over Titus Alexander on January 13 at Star Navigation and other challengers, before losing it to HAYATA on April 11 at Design Stage 2 in his fourth defense overall.[18][19] These defenses underscored GLG's growing dominance in Noah's singles division while highlighting Morris's role as a reliable champion. GLG's expansion extended to inter-promotional opportunities with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) amid Noah's strengthened ties under the United Japan Pro-Wrestling banner. Jake Lee made his NJPW in-ring debut at the Road to Wrestling Dontaku on April 23, 2024, interfering in a match to aid Bullet Club War Dogs members, signaling early crossover intrigue.[20] At NJPW's Dominion on June 9, 2024, LJ Cleary teamed with Bullet Club War Dogs members Clark Connors and Drilla Moloney in a six-man tag team match against Zack Sabre Jr., Robbie Eagles, and Kosei Fujita. These appearances stemmed from Noah-NJPW joint events like All Together on May 6, 2024, where Lee teamed with David Finlay and Gabe Kidd of Bullet Club War Dogs to defeat Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi, and Bushi, fostering collaborative narratives across promotions. However, these external pursuits began to expose internal fractures within GLG. Jake Lee's increasing focus on personal accolades, including his participation in NJPW's G1 Climax 34 tournament starting July 20, 2024, strained group dynamics as he pursued high-profile opportunities outside Noah.[21] Overtures from Bullet Club War Dogs intensified, with Lee aligning with them during the May 6 All Together event, raising questions about his loyalty amid GLG's collective goals. This alliance hinted at emerging ambitions that prioritized individual spotlight over stable unity, setting the stage for broader challenges in Noah's evolving landscape.[22]

Dissolution and aftermath (2024)

On June 16, 2024, during Pro Wrestling Noah's Grand Ship In Yokohama event, stable leader Jake Lee announced the disbandment of Good Looking Guys, effective one month later at the Destination 2024 pay-per-view.[23] This decision marked the end of the group's dominant run in Noah, amid internal tensions highlighted by Lee's shifting focus toward opportunities in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.[24] The stable's final match occurred on July 13, 2024, at Noah Destination 2024 held in Tokyo's Nippon Budokan, where Jake Lee teamed with loyal members Yo-Hey and Tadasuke to defeat the remaining faction members Jack Morris, Anthony Greene, and LJ Cleary in a six-man tag team bout.[25] Following the victory, Lee officially dissolved Good Looking Guys, solidifying the breakup as he turned his attention to new horizons.[26] In the immediate aftermath, Jake Lee defected to New Japan Pro-Wrestling, joining the Bullet Club War Dogs faction during the same Destination event, where he received an initiation shirt from representative Gedo and attacked Morris with a chokeslam before declaring his departure from Noah.[27] Other members experienced varied transitions; for instance, Morris and Greene continued competing in Noah's tag team division in the ensuing months, maintaining their presence despite the stable's collapse, with Morris later teaming with Omos to win the GHC Tag Team Championship on January 1, 2025.[19][28] Good Looking Guys, active from 2023 to 2024, left a legacy as a short-lived yet impactful unit in Noah, known for its aggressive style and rapid accumulation of championships that reshaped the promotion's heavyweight and tag divisions during its tenure.[2]

Members

Founders and core members

The Good Looking Guys (GLG) stable was founded in January 2023 by Jake Lee, Jack Morris, and Anthony Greene, who established its core identity as a charismatic, multinational unit in Pro Wrestling Noah. This original trio laid the groundwork for the group's theme of confident, visually striking performers challenging the promotion's established order, beginning with their debut appearance together at the Great Muta Final Bye-Bye event on January 22, 2023. Their joint efforts in early 2023 events, such as tag team matches against veterans like Naomichi Marufuji, helped solidify GLG's aggressive, heel-oriented dynamic and emphasis on Lee's leadership.[29] Jake Lee, a Japanese wrestler born Jae Kyung Lee in 1989, served as the stable's leader and adopted the persona of the "Good Looking Emperor," portraying a regal, arrogant figure who commanded respect through his in-ring presence and mic skills. With a background in All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) since his 2011 debut, where he honed a versatile style blending technical prowess and striking, Lee transitioned to Noah on January 1, 2023, seeking greater opportunities after becoming a key player in AJPW. In GLG, he directed the group's strategy, often intervening in matches to assert dominance, and featured in high-profile singles bouts like his GHC Heavyweight Championship challenge against Kaito Kiyomiya in March 2023, which elevated the stable's profile.[30][21][3] Jack Morris, a Scottish powerhouse born in 1993, brought raw physicality and tag team expertise to GLG as one of its founding members. A former semi-professional footballer from Fife, Scotland, who transitioned to wrestling in 2018, Morris debuted in Noah in July 2022 and quickly impressed with his explosive strong style, characterized by powerful lifts, strikes, and submissions that suited the promotion's hard-hitting environment. Within the stable, he specialized in tag matches, often clashing with technical and high-flying opponents in feuds that highlighted his brute force, such as early confrontations with Stinger faction members, contributing to GLG's intimidating aura.[31][32] Anthony Greene, an American wrestler born in 1993, complemented the trio with his agile, technical approach and formed a key partnership with Morris that drove much of GLG's early tag division presence. Debuting professionally in 2014 and gaining experience in promotions like Combat Zone Wrestling, Greene joined Noah as a freelancer in 2022, bringing a fluid style emphasizing submissions, reversals, and aerial maneuvers. In the stable's formative phase, his synergy with Morris created dynamic pairings that tested established teams, while his underdog energy balanced Lee's emperor role, fostering internal cohesion during initial tours like the February 2023 Great Voyage events.[33][34]

Later recruits

Following the initial formation of Good Looking Guys (GLG) in early 2023, the stable expanded by incorporating wrestlers from Noah's junior heavyweight division, beginning with Tadasuke and YO-HEY on March 19, 2023, during the Great Voyage in Yokohama event. Tadasuke, a resilient junior heavyweight known for his aggressive brawling style, integrated into GLG by aligning with the faction's charismatic ethos, providing a grounded counterpoint to the group's more flamboyant heavyweights. His addition bolstered the stable's presence in the junior tag team landscape, where he partnered effectively with YO-HEY to capture the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship on April 16, 2023, at Green Journey in Sendai, marking GLG's first incursion into that division.[3][35] YO-HEY, Tadasuke's high-flying counterpart and a dynamic performer with an energetic persona, joined simultaneously, infusing GLG with aerial flair and youthful vigor that contrasted the stable's established power-based approach. As a tag team unit within GLG, they defended the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship multiple times, including a successful retention against Alpha Wolf and Dragón Bane on April 29, 2023, at Korakuen Hall, which helped elevate the faction's versatility across weight classes and enriched storylines involving inter-division rivalries. Their partnership not only secured key victories but also amplified GLG's appeal by blending high-energy juniors with the group's senior members, fostering narratives of unity and dominance in Noah's junior scene.[3][35] In the later phase of GLG's run, LJ Cleary, an Irish international talent with a hard-hitting, technical style, joined on October 9, 2023, during the debut episode of Noah's Monday Magic series, where he turned on his tag partner Ryohei Oiwa to align with the stable. Cleary's recruitment added a global dimension to GLG, leveraging his connections to existing members like Anthony Greene and Jack Morris to introduce fresh dynamics in multi-man matches and feuds during the stable's waning months. His involvement enhanced the group's multinational narrative, contributing to high-profile bouts such as the internal tensions showcased at Destination on July 13, 2024, and providing agile support in tag scenarios that prolonged GLG's relevance amid Noah's evolving landscape.[36]

Membership timeline

The Good Looking Guys stable was formed on January 19, 2023, during a Pro Wrestling NOAH event, initially consisting of leader Jake Lee, Jack Morris, and Anthony Greene.[37] On March 19, 2023, at the GREAT VOYAGE 2023 in Yokohama event, Tadasuke and YO-HEY joined the group after turning on their previous affiliations.[38] LJ Cleary became the final addition to the stable on October 9, 2023, debuting in NOAH by aligning with the group during a tag team match.[39] The stable remained intact with all six members until its complete disbandment on July 13, 2024, at the DESTINATION 2024 event, marking the end of the unit's activities.[40]

Championships and accomplishments

Collective titles

The Good Looking Guys (GLG) secured prominent tag team championships in Pro Wrestling Noah, establishing the stable's influence through coordinated dominance in both heavyweight and junior divisions. As a unit, GLG members captured the GHC Tag Team Championship and the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, with reigns that overlapped to control multiple belts simultaneously during key periods in 2023 and 2024. These achievements underscored the faction's strategy of leveraging tag partnerships to assert heel authority over Noah's tag team landscape. Jack Morris and Anthony Greene, representing GLG, won the GHC Tag Team Championship on September 24, 2023, at the Grand Ship In Nagoya event by defeating the reigning champions, the Real unit's Timothy Thatcher and Masa Kitamiya. Their reign lasted 266 days, ending on June 16, 2024, at the Grand Ship 2024 In Yokohama event when they lost to Naomichi Marufuji and Takashi Sugiura. During this period, Morris and Greene recorded eight successful defenses, highlighting their resilience against diverse challengers. Notable defenses included victories over Masa Kitamiya and Daiki Inaba on March 12, 2024, at Star Navigation, and Alpha Wolf and Dragon Bane on March 15, 2024, at Cross Over in Sendai, which demonstrated GLG's ability to repel both domestic powerhouses and international high-flyers.[41] In the junior division, Tadasuke and YO-HEY claimed the GHC Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship twice as GLG representatives, aligning with the stable's expansion into lighter-weight competition. Their first reign began on April 16, 2023, at Green Journey in Sendai, where they defeated Eita and Yoshinari Ogawa in a tournament final, holding the titles for 67 days until losing to Chris Ridgeway and Daga on June 22, 2023. The duo regained the belts on January 2, 2024, at The New Year event in a three-way match also involving Ninja Mack and Alejandro and Alpha Wolf and Dragon Bane, embarking on a 159-day reign that concluded on June 9, 2024, when they lost to Eita and Shuji Kondo at Star Navigation 2024. This second tenure featured six defenses, with key bouts such as their retention against Eita and HAYATA on February 24, 2024, at Great Voyage in Yokohama, which solidified GLG's grip on junior tag warfare through high-energy, fast-paced encounters.[42] GLG's tag team successes enabled simultaneous title holdings, particularly from January to June 2024, when Morris/Greene and Tadasuke/YO-HEY concurrently defended the heavyweight and junior tag belts, respectively. This overlap, combined with strategic alliances within the stable, allowed GLG to control over half of Noah's active tag divisions at peak periods in 2023–2024.

Individual honors

During its active period, members of Good Looking Guys achieved several individual championship reigns in Pro Wrestling Noah, highlighting their prominence as solo competitors while aligned with the stable. Jake Lee, as the stable's leader, captured the GHC Heavyweight Championship on March 19, 2023, by defeating Kaito Kiyomiya at Noah's Great Voyage in Yokohama event, marking his debut major title win in the promotion after transitioning from All Japan Pro Wrestling.[3][43] He defended the title successfully against challengers including Go Shiozaki and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., maintaining the championship for 223 days until losing it to Kenoh on October 28, 2023, at Demolition Stage in Fukuoka.[44][45] Jack Morris also secured a significant individual accolade by winning the GHC National Championship on October 28, 2023, defeating El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. in the same Demolition Stage event, ending the latter's 352-day reign.[46][47] Morris, representing the stable's international flair, held the midcard title for 166 days, defending it against opponents such as Hajime Ohara and Anthony Greene in intra-stable matches, before losing it to HAYATA on April 11, 2024, at Star Navigation 2024.[48][19] In terms of external recognitions tied to their performances during the GLG era, Jake Lee was ranked No. 23 in the 2023 Pro Wrestling Illustrated 500, reflecting his impact as GHC Heavyweight Champion and stable leader.[49] Similarly, Jack Morris earned a No. 310 placement in the same rankings, underscoring his rising status through the GHC National title run.[49] These honors emphasized the members' individual contributions amid the stable's collective dominance, without notable match-of-the-year nominations specifically linked to GLG activities in major awards like Tokyo Sports.
