Early life

Peter Kullgren was born on 17 May 1981 in Forshaga, Värmland County, Sweden.[3][4] As a native of the Värmland region, known for its rural character and forested landscapes, Kullgren hails from this area central to Sweden's countryside identity.[3]

Kullgren completed his secondary education at Nobelgymnasiet in Karlstad from 1997 to 2000.[5][2]

Political career

Membership in the Riksdag

Peter Kullgren has not been elected as a member of the Riksdag.[6] His political career prior to national party leadership focused on local governance, including serving as group leader for the Christian Democrats in Karlstad Municipal Council from 2005 to 2017.[2]

Party secretary of the Christian Democrats

From 2017 to 2018, Peter Kullgren served as election campaign leader and deputy party secretary for the Christian Democrats, contributing to the party's preparations for the 2018 general election.[2] On 14 September 2018, he was elected as the party's party secretary, succeeding Acko Ankarberg Johansson.[7] In this role from 2018 to 2022, Kullgren led the party's internal organization, including membership recruitment and strategic planning to strengthen the Christian Democrats' position ahead of the 2022 election.[2] He was succeeded by Johan Ingerö following his transition to government service.[2]

Appointment as Minister for Rural Affairs
