Randy Moore is an American independent filmmaker and screenwriter known for writing and directing his debut feature Escape from Tomorrow (2013), a surreal horror film that gained attention for being shot guerrilla-style inside Disney theme parks without official permission. [1] [2] Born in Lake Bluff, Illinois, Moore studied filmmaking at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Columbia College Chicago, and Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, where he graduated valedictorian. [2] He later worked as a story editor in Los Angeles and received recognition in screenwriting competitions, including quarter-finalist status in the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting, second place in Fade In magazine's script award, and the Grand Prize from Writemovies.com. [2] Inspired by childhood summers spent visiting his father in Orlando and frequent family trips to Disney World, Moore conceived Escape from Tomorrow as a subversive exploration of the nightmarish undercurrents beneath Disney's family-friendly image. [1] He utilized compact Canon 5D Mark II cameras to discreetly capture footage across Disney parks after extensive planning and rehearsals, creating a production process marked by high risk and innovative use of emerging technology. [1] The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, where it drew notice for its bold approach, and was later highlighted by IndieWire as one of the five best films of the year by a first-time director.
