Sander Lantinga

Sander Lantinga (born 27 September 1976) is a Dutch program maker at BNN, and a radio-DJ at radio station 3FM from 2006 till 2015, in August 2015 he is one of the co host of the Coen en Sander Show on Radio 538. Lantinga drew worldwide attention as the streaker during the quarter final tennis match between Maria Sharapova and Elena Dementieva at Wimbledon in July 2006,[1] a challenge he did for the BNN program Try Before You Die.

He was one of the Dutch commentators alongside Cornald Maas for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, held in Rotterdam, since usual co-commentator Jan Smit was one of the main hosts for that edition. Maas, Lantinga and Smit were all named members of the committee in charge of selecting the Dutch entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.[2] He continued to hold this position for the 2023 and 2024 selections.[3]

Sander Lantinga was born on September 27, 1976, in Berkhout, North Holland, Netherlands.[1] After several relocations during his childhood, he settled with his parents in Biddinghuizen.[7] It was in Biddinghuizen that his interest in music began to develop, prompting him to start DJing at school parties and to form a band called Gekocht bij Albert Heijn.[7] He completed his HAVO secondary education.[7] He then attempted a year of HEAO studies, but found it unsuitable and discontinued it.[7] He subsequently enrolled in Audiovisuele Journalistiek at a college in Zwolle.[7]

Sander Lantinga began his television career with early acting appearances, including a role in the children's program Sinterklaasjournaal in 2001 and a minor appearance in the soap opera Goede tijden, slechte tijden.[1] In 2005, he became a presenter on the BNN youth-oriented program Try Before You Die, alongside Filemon Wesselink and Sophie Hilbrand. The show featured the hosts completing extreme challenges and experiences. One of his most notable moments was streaking across Centre Court at Wimbledon during a 2006 quarterfinal match between Maria Sharapova and Elena Dementieva as part of a stunt for the program, which received international media attention.[8] He has continued to appear in various Dutch television programs, including as a commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 alongside Cornald Maas, and as a participant in reality and entertainment shows such as Wie is de Mol?, De Verraders, and The Masked Singer.

Sander Lantinga rose to prominence in radio as co-host of the Coen en Sander Show alongside Coen Swijnenberg, which debuted on NPO 3FM in September 2006.[9] The weekday afternoon program, airing from 16:00 to 19:00, ran until May 2015 and produced around 2000 episodes while winning the Gouden RadioRing in 2008.[9][10] In August 2015, Lantinga and Swijnenberg relocated the Coen en Sander Show to Radio 538, where it initially broadcast Monday through Thursday in the 16:00–19:00 afternoon slot starting 17 August.[11] The program continued on the station with various adjustments, including a reduction to Fridays only by 2022, before ending abruptly in October 2023 following the duo's announced departure.[12] Since 6 May 2024, Lantinga and Swijnenberg have presented De Coen & Sander Show as a morning program on JOE, airing weekdays from 06:00 to 10:00 with newsreader Merel Westrik.[13] The show features music from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s alongside personal stories and listener interaction.[9]

Sander Lantinga has participated in the Dutch reality competition series De Verraders, the local adaptation of The Traitors. In the Halloween Season 3 Videoland edition, he entered as a Faithful and was recruited to the Traitors faction from episode 5 onward. [3] He was banished during the game and placed sixth overall. [3] Lantinga has also been involved in the annual charity event 3FM Serious Request, which features a reality-style format with participants confined to a glass house or supporting roles to raise funds. In 2006, listeners voted him, alongside Giel Beelen and Gerard Ekdom, to spend six days locked in the glass house at the Neude in Utrecht to collect donations for landmine victims under the slogan "30 miljoen landmijnen, daar kun je niet omheen." [14] In 2010, he served as the event's klusjesman (handyman), assisting with various tasks throughout the week-long broadcast. [15] In addition to these, Lantinga appeared in the comedy roast special The Roast of Gordon, delivering a full roast performance filled with self-deprecating humor and sharp jabs at the Dutch entertainer Gordon. Sander Lantinga is married to Tessel van der Lugt since 2011. [1] The couple met while working together, initially while both were in other relationships. [17] They have four children: son Klaas and daughters Molly, Cato, and Lily-Lexi. [19] In 2023, he underwent sterilization, stating that after four children it was "his turn" to take that step.
