Thunichal (transl. Bravado) is a 2010 Indian Tamil-language romantic action thriller film[1] written and directed by Majith. Starring Arun Vijay, Ramana, newcomer Shiva Manjal, and Swathika, the film was released on 1 January 2010, after many delays.[2][3]

Production

The shooting for Thunichal began shooting in May 2005 and was completed by the end of the year, except for the dubbing portions.[4] The film finished shooting in 2007. Subsequently, the film was scheduled to release in 2008 but did not after Arun Vijay did not dub for the film.[5] However, after the success of lead actor, Arun Vijay's Malai Malai, producer P. Kalidas decided to use his new-found publicity to launch his film. Arun Vijay, worried that the move could hamper his new-found image at the box office, lodged a complaint with the Nadigar Sangam, alleging that the producer of Thunichal was attempting to release the film without his voice.[citation needed] Soon after, he retracted his statements and refuted that the film would not damage his reputation.[citation needed] P. Kalidas filed a court case against Arun Vijay on how he delayed dubbing for the film. The court verdict was a hold on Arun Vijay’s next film Maanja Velu (2010)'s release till Thunichal released.[5]

Soundtrack

[edit]

The soundtrack was the first soundtrack composed by music director Premji Amaran, who during the postponement of the film, went on to become a popular actor. The film is one of two films—the other being Nenjathai Killadhe (2008)—that he worked outside the Chennai 600028 gang.[6]
