Postecoglou is married to Georgia, who worked at South Melbourne as a marketing manager when he served as the club's manager.

Postecoglou and his wife have three sons: James, Max, and Alexi. James serves with the Hellenic Armed Forces and is based in Lemnos.

Postecoglou was inducted into the Football Australia Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution to Australian football as a player and coach.
