27 August, 1974
On this date, Rebecca 'Becky' Schroeder, at the age of 12, was granted U.S.
Patent 3,832,556 for her invention of a luminescent backing sheet designed for
writing in the dark, commonly known as the 'Glo-Sheet.' This marked a
significant achievement, making her one of the youngest females to receive a
U.S. patent. Her invention found applications in various fields, including
healthcare, maritime operations, and photography, where writing in low-light
conditions was necessary.
