David Robert Joseph Beckham was born at Whipps Cross University Hospital in London, England, to Ted and Sandra Georgina West.

Beckham grew up in a family that supported his interest in football. His maternal grandfather was Jewish, and he describes himself as 'half-Jewish'.

Beckham was part of the Manchester football youth system, training alongside other future stars like Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Phil Neville, Gary Neville, and Paul Scholes.
