The Encyclopedia of Popular Music[2]

Eddie Fisher Today! was Eddie Fisher's first album for Dot Records, released in 1965.

Background

[edit]

Eddie Fisher's recording career was in bad shape by 1965. With his singles barely charting he switched from RCA Victor to his own Ramrod and for Eddie Fisher Today! he switched to Dot Records.[3] After his song "Sunrise, Sunset", (which he advertised more, going on shows like the Ed Sullivan Show to perform it[4] and buying advertisments on newspapers), reached No. 119 on Billboard Hot 100 and Cashbox,[5]

Overview

[edit]

The album reached No. 52 on the Billboard Top LPs chart, staying on it for 10 weeks.[6] This was his first charting studio album in 10 years. With some sales momentum, Dot Records started rushing Fisher's next album,[7] When I Was Young, which features re-recordings of his RCA Victor hits. Eddie Fisher Today! mainly consists of covers of hit songs from 1964 and 1965, and his own charting song of the year. Billboard put the album in the category "The Greatest Talent On Record".[8]
