List of Toy Story characters
This is a list of characters from Disney and Pixar's Toy Story franchise which includes animated feature films Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, Toy Story 4, and Lightyear as well as the Toy Story Toons series and television specials Toy Story of Terror! and Toy Story That Time Forgot.
Sheriff Woody Pride (voiced by Tom Hanks in the films and Jim Hanks in other media) is a 1950s traditional pullstring cowboy doll. He is Andy's favorite toy and serves as the leader of the toy group. He is also extremely proud of his hat and becomes alarmed when he discovers it's gone in Toy Story 2. His rivalry with Buzz Lightyear forms the basis of the first film's plot.
In Toy Story 2, a toy collector named Al steals Woody from a yard sale, prompting the other toys to mount a rescue mission. It is revealed that he was the star of a fictional 1950s puppet television series titled Woody's Roundup. In Toy Story 3, he and the other toys are donated to a daycare center and race to return home before Andy leaves for college. Later in the film, he and the other toys are eventually passed on to a girl named Bonnie.
In Toy Story 4, Woody joins Bo Peep in traveling with his new family and Forky. They also help lost toys find owners and save Forky from running away. Woody appears in Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, Toy Story 4, Toy Story Treats, Toy Story Toons, Toy Story of Terror!, Toy Story That Time Forgot and Lamp Life.
Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen in the films, Patrick Warburton in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Pat Fraley in Toy Story Treats and video games, Mike MacRae in video games, Chris Evans in Lightyear and Javier Fernández-Peña in Spanish mode) is a modern-day "Space Ranger" action figure. In the Toy Story films, he acts as Woody's second-in-command.
In the first film, Buzz believes he is a real Space Ranger and develops a rivalry with Woody, who resents him for receiving more attention as the newcomer. He soon realizes that he is just a toy and becomes good friends with Woody. In Toy Story 2, Buzz, alongside Mr. Potato Head, Hamm, Rex, and Slinky, goes to save Woody from Al. Buzz ends up stuck in the Buzz Lightyear aisle in Al's Toy Barn by another Buzz Lightyear toy. In Toy Story 3, he and Jessie began to develop a relationship. He is particularly affectionate when switched to "Spanish mode".
Andy regards Woody and Buzz as his two favorite toys. In the third film, he contemplates which of the two should he bring to college, and ultimately chooses Woody. When passing his toys to Bonnie, he describes Buzz as "the coolest toy ever".
A 65-episode television series, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, aired from 2000 to 2001, featuring Buzz as a real Space Ranger. The 2022 Pixar film, Lightyear, depicts his origin story as well as a lineup of other Buzz Lightyear toys. In Lightyear, Buzz is a Space Ranger in Star Command, drawn into a conflict with Emperor Zurg after experiencing the effects of time dilation while testing faster-than-light travel methods.
