Birth of George Washington

George Washington was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia, to Augustine Washington and Mary Ball Washington. He was the first child of the family and would go on to become one of the most influential figures in American history.
Early Military Career
1752-1758
Washington began his military career as a major in the Virginia militia during the French and Indian War. He played a significant role in the Battle of Fort Duquesne and later became the commander of the Virginia Regiment.
