Jimmy Carter

James Earl Carter Jr., known as Jimmy Carter, was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, to James Earl Carter Sr. and Lillian Gordy Carter.

Carter graduated from Plains High School and went on to attend Georgia Southwestern College before transferring to the U.S. Naval Academy.

Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy.

Carter married Rosalynn Smith on July 7, 1947, in Plains, Georgia.
