He won the Prayagraj South Constituency seat, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Keshri Nath Tripathi by a margin of 14,810 votes. Following his victory, he was appointed the Minister for Institutional Finance, Stamp, and Judicial Tax in the Mayawati government, becoming the youngest minister in her cabinet at the time.

In the 2012 Assembly election, Gupta contested as a BSP candidate from the Prayagraj South constituency but was narrowly defeated by Samajwadi Party candidate Haji Parvej Ahmad Tanki by a margin of just 414 votes. In 2014, both Gupta and his wife joined the Indian National Congress (INC). He contested the Prayagraj Lok Sabha seat in the 2014 elections on a Congress ticket but did not win.

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, he contested from the Prayagraj South seat on a BJP ticket and defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Haji Parvez Ahmad Tanki by a margin of 28,587 votes. Following this victory, he was appointed the Minister of Stamp and Court Fees, Registration, and Civil Aviation in Yogi Adityanath's BJP-led cabinet.

Continuing his successful streak, Gupta won the Prayagraj South constituency again in the 2022 State Assembly elections, defeating SP candidate Raish Chandra Shukla by 26,182 votes. Subsequently, he was appointed the Minister for Industrial Development, Export Promotion, NRI Affairs, and Investment Promotion in Yogi Adityanath's second term as Chief Minister.

As the Minister for Industrial Development, Nandi was instrumental in the success of the Global Investors Summit held in February 2023, which secured significant investments across key sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, agriculture, renewable energy, electronics, and textiles. The event facilitated the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs. 33.5 trillion. Within a year, over 14,000 projects valued at approximately Rs. 10 trillion were launched during the groundbreaking ceremony in February 2024, marking a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s economic growth.
