Construction began on the glue factory plant in Gowanda, originally owned by
Richard Wilhelm and known as the Eastern Tanners Glue Company. This factory
contributed to Gowanda's reputation as America's glue capital, although Peter
Cooper was not directly involved, his legacy in the glue industry influenced the
area.

Peter Cooper died in New York City at the age of 92. His death marked the end of
a long and impactful life during which he made significant contributions to
industry, education, and politics. He is buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in
Brooklyn, New York.
