Family and upbringing
Soumya Seth was born on October 17, 1989, in Varanasi (also known as Banaras), Uttar Pradesh, India.[8][9] She is the eldest child in her family, with a younger sister named Prakriti Seth and a younger brother named Karthik Seth.[8][10] Her father, Kamal Seth, worked as a businessman, while her mother, Annu Seth, managed the household.[8][10] The family later relocated from Varanasi to Mumbai, Maharashtra, where Seth spent much of her upbringing, allowing her exposure to the city's vibrant cultural and entertainment landscape.[11] This move provided better opportunities for the family and immersed Seth in an environment conducive to her emerging aspirations.[11] Growing up in a close-knit family, Seth experienced typical sibling dynamics, with her younger brother often teasing her in ways reminiscent of her later on-screen portrayals.[11] Her parents fostered a supportive atmosphere, encouraging her pursuits despite initial surprise at her dedication to long work hours in her early career endeavors.[11] This familial encouragement played a key role in shaping her confidence during her formative years in Mumbai.[11]Education
Soumya Seth began her formal education at St. John's School in Marhauli, Varanasi, where she completed her early schooling.[12][8] After her family relocated to Mumbai, she attended R.N. Shah High School and completed her secondary education there.[12][8] Seth later pursued a bachelor's degree in commerce at the University of Mumbai.[12] Her time studying in Mumbai, a major center for India's entertainment industry, coincided with the start of her interest in acting, as she began attending modeling assignments and auditions alongside her academic commitments.[12]Acting career
Television debut and breakthrough
Soumya Seth made her television acting debut in 2011 with the lead role of Navya Mishra in the Star Plus series Navya..Naye Dhadkan Naye Sawaal, which aired from April 2011 to June 2012.[1] The show, produced by Swastik Pictures, followed the romantic journey of Navya, a 19-year-old college student from a conservative family, as she navigates the tensions between traditional values and modern aspirations while falling in love with Anant Bajpai, a carefree young man from a more progressive household.[13] Seth's portrayal depicted Navya as a relatable, next-door girl grappling with adolescence, family expectations, and personal growth, resonating with young viewers by addressing real-life dilemmas faced by India's youth, such as balancing independence with cultural norms.[14] As a newcomer to the industry, Seth faced initial hurdles, including limited prior acting experience and the pressure of leading a prime-time show without extensive formal training. This opportunity marked her transition from modeling and minor pursuits to professional acting, where she honed her skills on set through daily rehearsals and character immersion.[11] The series quickly gained traction, achieving consistent television rating points (TRPs) around 2.5–3.0 and entering the top five most-watched shows on Star Plus within months of launch, which propelled Seth to overnight fame among urban youth audiences.[15] Her character's emphasis on self-respect, education, and emotional authenticity inspired a dedicated fan base, with viewers often identifying Seth's shy yet determined on-screen persona as a mirror to their own lives, leading to widespread appreciation and media buzz during the show's successful run.[16] This breakthrough established Seth as a promising talent in Indian television, highlighting her ability to connect with a new generation through nuanced, contemporary storytelling.[17]Film roles and later television work
Seth's only film role was a minor appearance in Om Shanti Om (2007), where she appeared as part of the audience during a dance sequence.[1] Following her success in Navya..Naye Dhadkan Naye Sawaal, Seth continued to secure prominent television roles that showcased her versatility in lead and supporting parts. In 2013, she starred as the lead Aaradhya Maansingh (later Periwal) in the Sony Entertainment Television series Dil Ki Nazar Se Khoobsurat, portraying a young woman raised to equate beauty with physical appearance and fair skin, whose journey involves a love triangle that challenges her prejudices and promotes themes of inner beauty and self-acceptance.[18][19] The show, which aired from February to June 2013, highlighted Aaradhya's transformation through her relationship with an "average-looking" radio jockey, emphasizing that true attractiveness stems from personality and kindness rather than superficial traits.[20] Seth also appeared in a supporting capacity in V The Serial (2012–2013) on Channel V India, playing a fictionalized version of herself as an aspiring actress navigating the entertainment industry, which added a meta-layer to her post-Navya work by drawing on her real-life experiences.[21] This youth-oriented series, centered on a teenager's audition mishaps and industry satire, allowed Seth to blend humor with subtle commentary on fame's challenges. In 2016, she took on the recurring role of Kaurwaki in the historical epic Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat on Colors TV, depicting the fierce and devoted wife of Emperor Ashoka (played by Mohit Raina), whose character arc involved political intrigue, loyalty, and emotional depth amid the Mauryan Empire's turbulent events. Airing from 2015 to 2016, the series marked one of Seth's more dramatic turns, contributing to the narrative's exploration of historical romance and empire-building.[22] Around 2017, Seth began reducing her acting commitments due to personal reasons, leading to a hiatus from on-screen work after Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat.[3]Personal life
Marriages and relationships
Soumya Seth married US-based businessman Arun Kapoor on January 15, 2017, in an intimate ceremony at a resort in the United States, after which she relocated from India to join him there.[23][24] Early in the marriage, Seth expressed optimism about starting a new life abroad, though the transition marked a significant shift from her acting career in Mumbai.[25] The relationship soon deteriorated due to instances of domestic abuse, including emotional manipulation and physical violence, which Seth publicly alluded to through cryptic Instagram posts in 2019.[26][27] These challenges intensified marital tensions, leading to a separation around 2018 and prompting Seth to seek support amid the emotional and physical toll.[28][29] Seth and Kapoor's divorce was finalized in 2019, with the couple agreeing to joint custody arrangements as part of the legal settlement.[28] The process was emotionally draining for Seth, who later described the aftermath as a period of rebuilding her independence while navigating ongoing co-parenting responsibilities in the US.[30] In June 2023, Seth found stability in a new relationship, marrying entrepreneur Shubham Chuhadia on June 22 in a low-key, one-day Indian-style ceremony in the United States.[31][32] She has highlighted the supportive and harmonious nature of this partnership, which has allowed her to maintain her life in the US without further upheaval.[33][34] This marriage also contributed to a temporary pause in any potential return to acting, as Seth focused on personal recovery.[35]Children and family life
Soumya Seth gave birth to her first child, a son named Ayden, in 2017 during her marriage to Arun Kapoor. Her pregnancy was marked by significant emotional challenges, including severe stress and suicidal thoughts stemming from an abusive relationship, which she later described as a period where she felt forced to endure for the sake of the unborn child.[12] Following her divorce, Seth shares joint custody of Ayden with Kapoor and maintains a co-parenting arrangement that allows her regular involvement in his life, including visits every other week.[36][37] Ayden has been integrated into Seth's new family structure, forming a close bond with her second husband, Shubham Chuhadia, which has contributed to greater family stability.[34] In April 2025, Seth announced her second pregnancy with Chuhadia via social media, expressing excitement about expanding their family.[31] Their daughter, Arya, was born in 2025, and Seth publicly introduced her to the world in October 2025, describing her as "the joy we didn't know we were missing."[2] Seth currently resides in the United States with her blended family, where she prioritizes creating a nurturing environment for Ayden and Arya amid everyday routines and family milestones.[33][28]Later career
Transition from acting
Following the end of her television work around 2016–2017, Somya Seth entered an acting hiatus, largely influenced by the personal trauma stemming from her abusive first marriage and subsequent divorce. The emotional toll of these experiences, including severe domestic violence and mental health challenges, prompted her to step away from the demanding entertainment industry to prioritize healing and family.[30] In April 2021, Seth publicly shared her ordeal in an interview, detailing the domestic abuse she endured from her ex-husband Arun Kapoor during her 2017 pregnancy with their son Ayden, which left her physically bruised and emotionally devastated. She revealed experiencing intense mental health struggles, including suicidal thoughts, as she grappled with isolation in a foreign country while trying to protect her unborn child; her parents' intervention in Virginia ultimately helped her escape to a safe house. These disclosures highlighted the profound impact of the abuse on her well-being, marking a pivotal moment in her journey toward recovery.[30][38][39] Having relocated to the United States with Kapoor in 2017 shortly after their marriage, Seth remained in Virginia post their June 2019 divorce to provide a stable environment for herself and her young son as a single mother. After the divorce, she worked as a community consultant from June 2018 to April 2021. This move allowed her to focus on personal recovery amid the aftermath of the trauma, away from the instability of her marital situation and the pressures of her native India's media landscape. Initially, she emphasized rebuilding her life through motherhood, crediting her son Ayden with giving her the strength to persevere.[30][28][12] During the same 2021 interviews, Seth announced her permanent departure from acting, stating she was no longer actively seeking projects and expressing a desire for a "normal life" free from the industry's relentless demands and scrutiny. At the time, she had already become a licensed realtor in Virginia, signaling her shift toward a more grounded existence centered on family and new professional pursuits. This decision underscored her need for emotional distance from the career that had defined her for over a decade, allowing her to embrace stability and self-determination.[30][31]Real estate and current pursuits
In 2021, Somya Seth transitioned into real estate, obtaining her license and beginning her career as a solo agent in Virginia, with services extending to Maryland and the Washington, D.C. area.[28][31] Her decision was influenced by a long-standing aspiration to become a businesswoman, inspired by her grandfather and father's entrepreneurial ventures, coupled with a personal interest in home construction and the factors affecting property values.[40] This shift provided a stable professional path that aligned with her family priorities after leaving acting.[41] Seth has since built her real estate business through Pearson Smith Realty, focusing on assisting families with buying and selling homes in northern Virginia and surrounding regions.[42] She maintains an active online presence, utilizing platforms like Instagram to showcase property listings, share client success stories, and offer guidance on homeownership.[7] Her approach emphasizes personalized support, from market analysis to closing deals, helping clients navigate the process to find homes suited for long-term family life.[43] As of November 2025, Seth remains an active realtor while balancing her professional commitments with family responsibilities, including co-parenting her son from a previous marriage and her role as a mother to her newborn daughter.[2] She announced her second pregnancy in April 2025; the couple later shared they were expecting a girl; their daughter Arya was born in October 2025.[31][44] She introduced Arya to the public via social media in October 2025, all while continuing to post about real estate opportunities and maintain client engagements.[45] This period highlights her commitment to work-life integration, as she pursues business growth alongside personal milestones.Filmography
