Birth in London
June 8, 1955
Timothy John Berners-Lee was born in London, England, to Conway Berners-Lee and Mary Lee Woods. Both parents were mathematicians and worked on the Ferranti Mark I, the first commercially available electronic digital computer.
Emanuel School
1969-1973
Berners-Lee attended Emanuel School in London, where he developed an early interest in electronics and computing. He tinkered with model railway sets and built computers from spare parts.
The Queen's College, Oxford
1973-1976
He studied at The Queen's College, Oxford, receiving a first-class BA degree in Physics in 1976. While at Oxford, he built a computer from TTL gates, an M6800 processor and an old television.
