Brendan James Fraser was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Canadian parents Carol Mary (née Généreux) and Peter Fraser, a Canadian foreign service officer.

Fraser spent his childhood traveling with his family to various locations including Europe, the US, and Canada due to his father's job. He attended Upper Canada College in Toronto.

Fraser graduated from the Actor's Conservatory at Seattle's Cornish College of the Arts.
