Early life
Alex Florea was born in Constanța, Romania. [2]Career
Talent show participations
Alex Florea gained initial recognition through his participation in Romanian televised talent competitions. He first competed in season 4 of The X Factor Romania in 2014, advancing to the live shows where he performed songs including "Numai una" by Talisman.[5] His run in the competition provided early exposure but was limited as he did not reach the later stages or final.[5] In 2015, Florea participated in season 5 of Vocea României. He passed the blind auditions with a performance of "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi and joined the team of coach Marius Moga.[6] He advanced through the battle rounds and subsequent live shows to reach the semifinals.[7] In the semifinals, he performed "Atât de singur" by Talisman in a cross-duel against Tobi Ibitoye but was eliminated and did not advance to the final.[8][9][10] These appearances helped build his profile in the Romanian music scene prior to later opportunities.Eurovision Song Contest 2017
In 2017, Alex Florea represented Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine, as part of a duet with yodeler Ilinca Băcilă, performing the song "Yodel It!". [11] The up-tempo track fuses pop rhythms with Ilinca's distinctive yodeling sections and Alex Florea's rap verses, centered on motivational lyrics encouraging listeners to embrace freedom and self-expression. [11] The pair won Romania's national selection, Selecția Națională, on March 5, 2017, after receiving strong public support with 10,377 televotes, which accounted for 33% of the public votes. [11] They had previously qualified from the national semi-final on February 26, 2017, where they placed first with 60 jury points. [11] At the Eurovision contest, they performed in the second semi-final in fifth position and finished sixth out of 18 entries with 174 points, advancing to the grand final. [11] In the grand final, they took the stage in 20th position and placed seventh out of 26 participants with 282 points, delivering one of Romania's strongest results in recent years. [11]Post-Eurovision career
Following his participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, Alex Florea's musical career has featured limited releases and public visibility. [3] In 2018, he released the single "Nobody Told Me It Would Hurt" via Cat Music. [12] The track was also entered in Romania's Selecția Națională for Eurovision 2018, where it finished fifth in the first heat. [12] In 2021, Florea released the single "Soare" in collaboration with Masymenos. [3] [13] Beyond these singles, documented musical output and major public appearances remain scarce in available sources.Discography
