Avelia Stream is a product family of rolling stock manufacturer Alstom that bundles its single deck high-speed passenger trains with distributed traction and conventional bogies. It is part of Avelia, the high-speed product line of Alstom. Its variants have top operating speeds of between 200 km/h (125 mph) and 300 km/h (190 mph).

Since 2024, the Avelia Stream family is the union of two different product families:[1]

History

[edit]

In August 2025, Virgin and Alstom entered a binding agreement to supply 12 Avelia Stream sets for Virgin’s High Speed 1 and Channel Tunnel bid. Rail experts expected these train sets to be a non-tilting variant of the New Pendolino product line.[1][4]

The Avelia Stream consists of the New Pendolino and Zefiro passenger trains ... although RAIL understands it is likely to be closer to the New Pendolino which operates regularly on the high-speed networks in Europe, reaching top speeds of close to 300kph. It is expected that they will be running the services with seven-car sets.
