Becky Beard (born June 22, 1960) is an American Republican politician known for her extensive service in the Montana State Legislature, where she has represented her constituents in both the House of Representatives and the State Senate since 2017. [1] Born in Lewistown, Montana, she earned a bachelor's degree in International Relations from Carroll College in 1991 and is a business owner and partner at Beard Environmental and Technical Assistance, LLC. [1] [2]
Beard began her legislative career by winning election to the Montana House of Representatives for District 80 in 2016, serving through 2022 with strong re-election victories in 2018 and 2020. [1] She then transitioned to the Montana State Senate, representing District 40 from 2022 to 2025 before redistricting led her to District 38, where she assumed office in January 2025 following a decisive primary and general election win in 2024. [1] She currently sits on key committees including Local Government (as vice chair), Taxation (as vice chair), and Education and Cultural Resources. [1]
Throughout her tenure, Beard has focused on issues such as property taxation, local governance, education funding, private property rights, wildlife management, and public health matters, sponsoring multiple bills that have become law in areas like tax processes, squatting offenses, and wolf mitigation efforts. [1] Her work reflects a consistent emphasis on fiscal responsibility, rural Montana concerns, and conservative priorities in a legislature often divided along party lines. [1]
