The Chery Tiggo is a family of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) produced by the Chinese automaker Chery Automobile, encompassing subcompact, compact, mid-size, and full-size models with options for petrol, plug-in hybrid, and all-wheel-drive powertrains.[1] Launched in April 2005 as Chery's first notable domestic SUV, the series has become a cornerstone of the brand's lineup, emphasizing affordability, spacious interiors, and advanced safety features like multiple airbags and ADAS systems.[2]
Since its debut, the Tiggo lineup has evolved through multiple generations and facelifts, starting with the original compact Tiggo model that combined rugged styling with urban practicality to compete in China's growing SUV market.[2] Key milestones include the introduction of hybrid variants in the 2020s, such as the Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV and Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV, which offer electric ranges up to 90 km and combined power outputs exceeding 200 kW, catering to global demand for efficient family vehicles.[3] Current models, built on Chery's T1X platform for enhanced rigidity and handling, include the subcompact Tiggo 2 Pro with a 1.5L engine, the compact Tiggo 4 Pro featuring EPB parking and a multi-functional steering wheel, the mid-size Tiggo 7 Pro Max with 1.6T power and four-wheel drive, the seven-seat Tiggo 8 Pro Max boasting a 2.0TGDI engine producing 180 kW and 390 N·m torque, and the flagship Tiggo 9 as a premium PHEV with 422 bhp and a 91-mile EV range.[1][4][5][6][7][8]
The Tiggo series has achieved significant commercial success, with individual models like the Tiggo 2, Tiggo 4, Tiggo 7, and Tiggo 8 each exceeding 1 million cumulative export units, contributing to Chery's position as China's leading passenger vehicle exporter for over two decades.[9] Exported to more than 80 countries, including strong markets in Russia—where the Tiggo 7 Pro Max topped import sales in 2024—South America, and emerging regions like the UK since 2025, the Tiggo vehicles are praised for value-driven pricing starting around £25,000 in Europe, high equipment levels such as 15.6-inch infotainment screens and 540° panoramic imaging, and competitive fuel efficiency around 8.7 L/100 km.[10][11][12] In 2025, Chery expanded the Tiggo lineup with PHEV options targeting rivals like the Ford Kuga and Volkswagen Tiguan, underscoring the series' role in the brand's global electrification strategy.[13]
