Cillian Murphy was born in Cork, Ireland.

Murphy joined several bands with his younger brother, the most successful being the Sons of Mr. Green Genes, which nearly signed to a record label.

Murphy began studying law at University College Cork but soon became interested in acting and began performing in plays.
