David Keith Bernard Basham (born June 1968)[1] is an Australian politician. He has been a Liberal member of the South Australian House of Assembly since the 2018 state election, representing Finniss. Basham served as the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development in the Marshall Ministry between 2020 and 2022.[2]

Entry into Parliament

David Basham entered the South Australian Parliament following his election as the Member for Finniss in the state election held on 17 March 2018. Running for the Liberal Party, he secured 43.6% of the first-preference votes (9,319 votes) and won on a two-candidate-preferred basis with 54.6% (11,669 votes) against the SA-Best candidate. This victory marked his transition into political office, representing the regional electorate covering parts of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Upon entering parliament, Basham took his seat in the House of Assembly as part of the 54th Parliament. In his first contribution to the chamber on 8 May 2018, during the Address-in-Reply debate, he spoke of the privilege and responsibility of representing the people of Finniss following the retirement of the previous Liberal member. Over the subsequent period until 2020, he participated in parliamentary debates and served on select committees, including the Select Committee on End of Life Choices established in the 54th Parliament.

Ministerial Service

David Basham served as Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development from 29 July 2020 to 21 March 2022 in the Marshall ministry under Premier Steven Marshall.
