Deven Shaw May (born April 3, 1971, in Whittier, California) is a Broadway performer, actor and photographer. He is most famous for his portrayal of the half-bat, half-human boy in Laurence O'Keefe's Off-Broadway musical Bat Boy, for which he won a Theatre World Award for "Outstanding New York Debut", as well as Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Award nominations. He also performed as Bat Boy in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre. Among other credits, he appears in the films Temptation and Fabled.

Deven May originated the title role of Bat Boy, a half-bat, half-human boy, in the 1997 world premiere production of Bat Boy: The Musical in Los Angeles, with music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming. He reprised the role in his New York debut in the Off-Broadway production, which opened at the Union Square Theatre in 2001. For his performance in the Off-Broadway production, he won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical and the Theatre World Award for Outstanding New York Debut, and received a nomination for the Lucille Lortel Award. May reprised the title role in the London production of Bat Boy: The Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre, which began performances in August 2004. This role established him as a notable stage performer prior to his tenure in Jersey Boys.

Jersey Boys

Deven May portrayed Tommy DeVito in the first national tour of Jersey Boys after being cast in the role in 2006, following acclaim for his originating performance in Bat Boy: The Musical. He later joined the Las Vegas production on December 1, 2008, succeeding Erik Bates as Tommy DeVito at The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino. More recently, May served as an understudy for multiple roles including Gary, Duncan, Doug, Andy, and Ray in the 2019 Off-Broadway production of Scotland, PA by Roundabout Theatre Company.
