Dianne Feinstein was inaugurated as the Mayor of San Francisco by Chief Justice Rose Bird of the Supreme Court of California, succeeding George Moscone after his assassination. This made her the first female mayor of San Francisco. John Molinari was selected to replace Feinstein as president of the Board of Supervisors.
