Dodi Fayed was born in Alexandria, Egypt, as the eldest child of Mohamed Al Fayed and Samira Khashoggi.

Fayed attended Collège Saint Marc in Alexandria before moving to Switzerland for further education.

He attended the Institut Le Rosey in Rolle, Switzerland, and later briefly attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
