Early life
Drew Skundrich was born on September 17, 1995, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States.[4][13][1] He is the son of Chris and Amy Skundrich and has two brothers, Joel and Jake.[14] Skundrich grew up in the Lancaster area.[15] At 5 feet 11 inches (180 cm) tall, his build was well-suited to the physical demands of early athletic development.[4][1]Youth soccer career
Drew Skundrich joined the PA Classics academy in 2010 at age 14, marking the start of his competitive youth soccer journey in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA).[14][16] He remained with the club through 2014, honing his skills as a midfielder while competing at high levels against top regional talent.[14] During his tenure, Skundrich contributed to key team successes, including helping the U-16 squad advance to the USSDA Finals Week in 2012, a significant achievement in the academy's showcase event.[14] He emerged as one of the club's top midfielders across age groups, developing a preference for the central midfield role where he could dictate play with vision and passing.[14] His versatility allowed him to adapt to defensive and attacking positions when needed, earning praise for his multi-dimensional style.[17] As captain of the U-18 team in his final youth season, Skundrich demonstrated leadership on and off the field, described by PA Classics head coach Steve Klein as a talented, humble, and well-rounded player ready for higher competition.[17] While he trained in elite academy environments, Skundrich did not advance to U.S. youth national team pools during this period.[14] Skundrich's standout performances with PA Classics, combined with his high school record at Hempfield High School—where he earned Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star Second Team honors in 2011 and helped secure a state title in 2010—drew recruitment attention from Division I programs.[14][17] Supported by his family in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, he committed to Stanford University in early 2014, transitioning seamlessly from youth club soccer to collegiate ranks.[17][18]College career
Stanford Cardinal
Drew Skundrich enrolled at Stanford University in 2014 and played four seasons for the Stanford Cardinal men's soccer team through 2017, appearing in 82 matches while scoring 9 goals and providing 13 assists.[5] As a versatile defender and midfielder, he transitioned from primarily playing right back as a freshman to a more central role in later years, contributing to Stanford's defensive solidity and offensive transitions. His youth career with the PA Classics helped facilitate his recruitment to the program.[16] During his freshman season in 2014, Skundrich made his collegiate debut as a substitute against San Jose State on September 6, entering late in a 2-0 victory. He recorded his first career assist in his second appearance, a 2-1 win over SIUE on September 19, setting up the game-winning goal in the 41st minute. Over the course of his career, he started increasingly more games, culminating in career-high performances as a senior in 2017 with 5 goals and 5 assists. Skundrich served as team captain during both his junior and senior years, providing leadership for a squad that achieved remarkable success, including three NCAA Division I national championships from 2015 to 2017 and four consecutive Pac-12 Conference titles.[14][7][19] Academically, Skundrich majored in Human Biology, maintaining a 3.29 GPA and earning Pac-12 All-Academic honors multiple times, including second-team selection as a freshman in 2014 and honorable mention in 2017. His on-field accolades included NSCAA All-Far West Region Second Team and All-Pac-12 Second Team honors as a junior in 2016, followed by First Team selections for both the United Soccer Coaches All-Region and All-Pac-12 teams in 2017. He was also a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award, recognizing his excellence in classroom, community, character, and competition.[6][14]Professional career
Early professional years
Following his college career at Stanford University, Skundrich was selected 40th overall in the second round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by the LA Galaxy on January 19, 2018. However, he was not signed to a professional contract by the Galaxy and instead pursued opportunities in the USL Championship. Prior to the draft, during the summer of 2016 while still in college, Skundrich made eight appearances for Burlingame Dragons FC in USL League Two, the fourth tier of the American soccer pyramid, without recording any goals; this amateur stint helped the team reach the Western Conference semifinals of the playoffs.[20][21] Skundrich began his professional career by signing with Bethlehem Steel FC, the USL Championship affiliate of the Philadelphia Union, on March 14, 2018. In his debut season, he appeared in 26 matches, starting 14, and contributed two goals and three assists while logging 1,583 minutes.[22][10] In 2019, Skundrich transferred to Sacramento Republic FC, where he spent the next two seasons solidifying his role in the midfield. Across 42 appearances (37 starts) in league play from 2019 to 2020, he scored three goals and provided three assists, including a standout 2019 campaign with 29 matches and one goal.[23] Skundrich signed with Loudoun United FC on February 9, 2021, for the upcoming USL Championship season but did not make any appearances before being acquired by D.C. United in May.[24][7]Major League Soccer
Drew Skundrich signed with Major League Soccer club D.C. United on May 12, 2021, joining from the club's affiliate Loudoun United FC on a one-year contract through 2021, with club options for 2022 and 2023.[7] His prior experience with Sacramento Republic FC in the USL Championship had positioned him for this move to the top flight via the affiliate pathway.[25] Skundrich made his MLS debut the next day, on May 13, 2021, as a substitute in D.C. United's 1–0 home win over the Chicago Fire FC at Audi Field.[26] In his debut season, the defensive midfielder featured in 20 matches (11 starts), logging 1,149 minutes without scoring but providing one assist in a 4–2 victory against Columbus Crew SC on August 4.[27] He contributed to midfield control through 58 progressive passes and solid defensive positioning, helping stabilize the team's central play during a challenging campaign.[4] Returning for 2022 after D.C. United exercised his option in November 2021, Skundrich appeared in 19 matches (9 starts), again without goals but with one assist in a 5–3 win at Orlando City SC on July 4.[28][29] His role emphasized defensive duties and ball progression, as evidenced by 50 progressive passes and consistent tackling in key fixtures like the season-opening 3–0 win over Charlotte FC.[4] Over two seasons, Skundrich totaled 39 MLS appearances (20 starts), two assists, and no goals, providing depth in central midfield.[4] D.C. United declined Skundrich's contract option on November 14, 2022, ending his MLS tenure with the club.[30]USL Championship
In 2023, Skundrich joined Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC of the USL Championship, signing a one-year deal announced on December 5, 2022.[31] During the season, he appeared in 32 matches, starting all of them and logging 2,852 minutes while scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist.[32] His contributions helped the Switchbacks finish sixth in the Western Conference, qualifying for the playoffs, though the team was eliminated in the conference quarterfinals. Skundrich returned to Loudoun United FC, his former affiliate club, on November 16, 2023, signing a contract through the 2025 season.[11] In 2024, he made 25 appearances (21 starts) for 1,760 minutes, scoring 1 goal with no assists, as Loudoun finished 10th in the Eastern Conference and missed the playoffs.[33] Skundrich assumed the captaincy for the 2025 campaign, leveraging his prior MLS experience with D.C. United to bolster team leadership.[34] Throughout 2025, Skundrich reached a career milestone on October 11, appearing in his 150th USL Championship regular-season match in a 1–0 victory over Detroit City FC.[12] He recorded 27 regular-season appearances (20 starts) for 1,959 minutes, 1 goal, and 1 assist, helping Loudoun secure a playoff spot with a sixth-place Eastern Conference finish.[35] In the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals on November 1, Skundrich started and played 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss to North Carolina FC at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park, ending Loudoun's postseason run.[36] As of November 11, 2025, following the conclusion of the regular season and Loudoun's playoff elimination, Skundrich has tallied 52 USL appearances and 2 goals across 2024 and 2025 (excluding playoffs), with his contract set to expire on November 30.[13] His estimated market value stands at €200k.[37]| Season | Club | Appearances (Starts) | Minutes | Goals | Assists |

Personal life
Family
Drew Skundrich married Andi Sullivan, a midfielder for the Washington Spirit in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and a member of the United States women's national soccer team (USWNT), in December 2019.[38] The couple met during their junior years at Stanford University, where both competed on their respective soccer teams.[38] Skundrich and Sullivan have navigated the challenges of maintaining their relationship amid demanding professional soccer schedules, often living in different cities due to team relocations. Prior to 2021, Skundrich played for Sacramento Republic FC on the West Coast while Sullivan was with the Spirit in the Washington, D.C., area, leading to extended periods apart; Skundrich cited the difficulty of this separation as a key factor in his decision to sign with Loudoun United FC (an affiliate of D.C. United) in 2021, allowing the couple to reunite on the East Coast.[38] In 2023, after Skundrich's stint with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC required another cross-country move, the pair balanced the distance by coordinating calls around training sessions and adjusting sleep schedules to watch each other's matches, such as during Sullivan's participation in the FIFA Women's World Cup. Skundrich returned to Loudoun United in late 2023, once again prioritizing proximity to Sullivan in the D.C. region.[11] On February 14, 2025, Sullivan and Skundrich announced they were expecting their first child, a girl. Their daughter, named Millie, was born in July 2025.[39]Education and other pursuits
Skundrich earned a bachelor's degree in Human Biology from Stanford University in 2017.[40][6] In addition to his professional soccer career, Skundrich founded Skundrich Health & Performance, a training company that provides in-person and online strength and conditioning programs, recovery strategies, nutrition guidance, and soccer-specific services for athletes and general clients.[41][42] The venture emphasizes science-backed methods to optimize health and performance, drawing on his background as a professional athlete.[41]Career statistics and honors
