Family and upbringing
Evan Roderick Anderson was born on June 29, 1995, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.[9] He grew up in Vancouver alongside his older brother, Stuart, in a close-knit family environment.[1] Roderick has credited his early fascination with performance to observing his father, who used expressive voice and body language to captivate audiences during family dinners and gatherings.[10] This familial storytelling tradition sparked his interest in acting well before he pursued it professionally as a teenager. Roderick's childhood in Vancouver, a coastal city in the Lower Mainland region, involved a blend of everyday activities that fostered creativity outside of structured pursuits. He has recalled daydreaming about cinematic roles from a young age, often drawing inspiration from the dynamic narratives shared at home, which laid the groundwork for his later artistic endeavors.[10] As he entered adolescence, these early influences began to intersect with other interests, including athletics.Hockey career and education
Roderick began playing competitive hockey from a young age, dedicating himself to the sport for over a decade and achieving notable success in junior leagues. To pursue better opportunities in hockey, he attended five different high schools. At age 14, he won a junior hockey championship. He played three seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), a prestigious junior circuit known for developing top talent.[5][4] His performance in these leagues earned him recognition as a high-level prospect, culminating in a Division I NCAA scholarship offer.[11] At age 18, Roderick enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, where he joined the River Hawks men's ice hockey team in the Hockey East conference. He briefly pursued both his athletic and academic commitments there, studying while preparing for collegiate competition just outside Boston. However, his time at UMass Lowell was short-lived, as he left the program after less than a full season.[5][4] Roderick retired from hockey at age 19 in 2014, following a series of injuries that forced him to reevaluate his future in the sport. He returned to his hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia, to recover and explore alternative career paths. This pivot marked the end of his athletic pursuits but left a lasting foundation of resilience.[5][11] The discipline, focus, and teamwork skills honed through years of intense hockey training profoundly shaped Roderick's personal growth, qualities he later credited with aiding his transition into the performing arts. These experiences instilled a strong work ethic and ability to perform under pressure, influencing his approach to professional challenges beyond the ice.[12][4]Career
Acting career
After concluding his competitive ice hockey career around 2014, Evan Roderick returned to Vancouver and pursued acting training, immersing himself in workshops, screen technique classes, and small independent film projects to build his skills.[13] This shift marked the beginning of his professional entry into the entertainment industry, drawing on the discipline and resilience he developed through years of high-level athletics.[4] Roderick made his professional acting debut in 2015 with appearances in commercials and short films, followed by his first television role as Mason in an episode of the docudrama series Untold Stories of the E.R.[14] His career gained momentum with guest appearances in shows such as Project Mc² (2017) and BH90210 (2019), where he played Chaz Bryant across two episodes. A significant breakthrough came with his recurring role as Officer Nick Anastas on The CW's Arrow, appearing in 12 episodes from 2017 to 2019, which showcased his ability to portray grounded, authoritative characters. This role elevated his visibility in genre television and led to his first lead performance as Justin Davis, a talented figure skater, in Netflix's Spinning Out in 2020, where his hockey background proved invaluable for authentic on-ice scenes. In the early 2020s, Roderick transitioned toward romantic and family-oriented television movies, starring in Hallmark Channel projects such as Autumn in the City (2022) and A Tale of Two Christmases (2022), followed by Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New (2023).[15] His portrayal of Wyatt in Sealed with a List (2023) earned him a 2024 Leo Award nomination for Best Lead Performance by a Male in a Television Movie, recognizing his growth into charismatic romantic leads.[16] Recent projects include Leah's Perfect Gift (2024), the romantic thriller An Impossible Promise (2025), and the supernatural series Providence Falls (2025).[1] Throughout his trajectory, Roderick's Canadian heritage and athletic foundation have consistently enhanced his portrayals of physically demanding or resilient roles, evolving from supporting parts in action series to prominent positions in feel-good dramas.[11]Music career
Evan Roderick is a self-taught guitarist who began developing his musical skills alongside his acting pursuits, drawing early inspiration from a childhood experience attending a Rolling Stones concert with his father at age 10.[17] His interest in music grew organically, leading him to start singing and songwriting as a personal outlet.[18] Roderick's style blends folk rock elements with nostalgic themes, heavily influenced by artists such as Bruce Springsteen and the Eagles, whom he has cited as key musical heroes.[11] This fusion reflects his preference for heartfelt, authentic songwriting that explores identity, resilience, and relationships.[17] He launched his professional music career in 2021, releasing his debut EP Upside Down on August 20, 2021, which included the singles "Upside Down," "Everyone Gets Lonesome," and "No Matter Where You Are Tonight."[19] These tracks, available on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, marked his entry into recording and distribution while he continued building his acting profile.[6] Roderick performs live occasionally, emphasizing emotional delivery in intimate settings as a singer-songwriter.[15] In 2025, Roderick released the single "Early Years," a reflective piece continuing his thematic focus on personal growth.[20] He maintains music as a distinct path from his acting work, though both draw from his disciplined approach, with plans for a full EP in development amid ongoing commitments.[3]Filmography
