George VI's health began to decline due to smoking-related issues, which limited his ability to perform royal duties. Princess Elizabeth took on more responsibilities.
Death
6 February 1952
George VI died at Sandringham House, aged 56, due to a coronary thrombosis. He was succeeded by his elder daughter, Elizabeth II.
