She secured her place as Estonia's entrant by winning the national selection Eurolaul in February 2007, receiving strong public support in both rounds of voting. The up-tempo track, composed by Hendrik Sal-Saller with lyrics by Berit Veiber, drew on Bonnie and Clyde imagery to depict a night of rebellious romance, but ultimately placed 22nd in the semi-final with 33 points, failing to qualify for the grand final. Padar has maintained a presence in the Estonian entertainment industry as a performer and has occasionally engaged with the Eurovision community, including serving as a jury member for Estonia in 2010. As the older sister of Tanel Padar, who contributed to Estonia's victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2001, she comes from a family with notable ties to the competition. She continues to release music and perform, building on her reputation as a versatile artist in her homeland.

She originated the title role in Detektiiv Lotte, which premiered in November 2008 and became one of the theatre's most visited productions, with revivals and extended performances over the years. Her involvement extended to other entries in the series, including Kosmonaut Lotte since 2012 and Lotte jõulupidu since 2012. She also appeared in large-scale Lotte shows at Saku Suurhall, such as Lotte ja vana õunapuu saladus in 2022 and Lotte ja kadunud jõuluvana planned for 2023. Padar has performed as Lotte internationally in countries including Ireland, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, and the USA, adapting the character for English-speaking audiences by creating an English monologue specifically for U.S. performances.

Screen and voice acting

Gerli Padar has made limited appearances in screen acting, primarily in the long-running Estonian television series Kättemaksukontor (known internationally as Revenge Office), where she portrayed the character Gertrud Paulmaa / Anu in three episodes between 2011 and 2013. Her role involved playing a secretary to a murdered businessman, marking her entry into scripted television drama outside of her music and theatre work. In voice acting, Padar dubbed the character Queen Barb in the Estonian-language version of the animated feature film Trolls World Tour (2020). This contribution to the DreamWorks Animation sequel represents her notable work in animated dubbing.

Television career

Hosting roles

Gerli Padar has served as a co-host on several Estonian television programs, demonstrating her versatility beyond performing. In 2006, she co-hosted Eurolaul, Estonia's national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, alongside Marko Reikop. That same year, Padar co-hosted the educational children's series Õpiõu on ETV with Mikk Sarv, where the duo guided young viewers through outdoor learning adventures and historical explorations across Estonia. In 2008, she co-hosted the third season of the popular dance competition Tantsud tähtedega with Mart Sander. Starting in 2010, Padar co-hosted the long-running summer music program Lauluga maale on ETV for eight seasons alongside Jüri Aarma; the show featured the pair traveling across Estonia to sing popular songs with local communities while exploring regional culture and landmarks.

Competition and performance appearances

Gerli Padar has participated as a contestant and performer in several Estonian television competition and entertainment programs. In 2006, she competed in the first season of Tantsud tähtedega, Estonia's adaptation of Dancing with the Stars, finishing in second place alongside her professional dance partner Martin Parmas. Personal life

Marriages, children, and family

Gerli Padar was married to Finnish-born Aki Harjanne from 2001 until their divorce in 2006. The couple married on 19 June 2001 in a small church in Sammatti, Finland, and had one daughter, Amanda Rebeca, born in autumn 2004. Amanda Rebeca has pursued competitive dancing, achieving success in the field before transitioning to other interests, including acting and university studies in food and biotechnology. Since 2006, Padar has been in a relationship with dancer and choreographer Martin Parmas, whom she met while competing together on the television show Tantsud tähtedega. The couple share a daughter, Camilla Miranda, born in 2014. After a long partnership, they married on 4 November 2022.

Later life and residence

In the autumn of 2018, Gerli Padar and her family relocated from Tartu to a row house in Viimsi Parish, Harju County. The move was driven by her husband Martin Parmas accepting the role of head coach at the newly established Golden Dance Club in the Tallinn area, which prompted the family to reunite after a temporary separation between Tartu and Tallinn. Although initially reluctant about Viimsi due to concerns over commuting and traffic, Padar was quickly convinced upon viewing the property, particularly because of its proximity to the sea. The decision unfolded rapidly, requiring Padar to pack their entire Tartu household in just two days after a spontaneous moving truck was arranged. While the family settled into Viimsi in 2018, the furnishing and full setup of their new home were largely completed only by Christmas 2020. Padar continues to reside in Viimsi, where her business GLIVE MUSIC OÜ is also registered. She balances her role as a mother with her ongoing work as a singer, actress, and television host.
