Initially, Vijay was not supposed to be a part of the song, but he became one of the singers after singing the song in a jiffy, marking his return to singing after a sabbatical.^[3][4] For the song, Vijay flew in three times to Mumbai.^[5] The songs alludes to Vijay's inclusion with the opening line "This is [for] Veejay,^[6] and it uses online platform jargons such as Google and Yahoo.^[7][8]

The teaser for the song was released on 1 November 2012.^[9] Upon release, the song was a chartbuster.^[10][11] The success of the song further prompted to Vijay to sing several songs for his subsequent films.^[12] The making video featuring Vijay, Kajal Aggarwal, Andrea Jeremiah and the film crew was released on 2 November 2012.^[13][14] Krish and Andrea Jeremiah sang the song at the 6th Vijay Awards.^[15] Shah Rukh Khan and Vijay danced to the song at the 7th Vijay Awards.^[16][17] Udhayanidhi Stalin named his dog Google after the song.^[18]

A critic from The Hindu wrote that "There are seven songs in the album and ‘Google Google,’ sung by actor Vijay, is the best. The engineer-turned-lyricist Karky has used English words appealingly in the song".^[19] A critic from Behindwoods wrote that "The words are carefully penned to cater to the youth’s current sensibilities like nightlife, internet and so forth. The song serves as perfect platform for Vijay to return as a singer and he performs it in a gracefully laidback style that’s a reflection of his personality".^[1] Karthik Srinivasan of Milliblog wrote that "Vijay does well in Google google, a basic, but foot-tapping song where Andrea provides excellent support".^[20] A critic from Moviecrow wrote that "this is easily the pick of the album with everything working perfectly well in unison. The highlight of course is ilayathalpathy Vijay, who has belt out the song with effortless rendition and cutely complemented by Andrea Jeremiah".^[21] A critic from Rediff.com wrote that "the interludes are all filled with weird and wonderful sounds as is usual in a Harris Jeyaraj number".^[6] A critic from Indiaglitz wrote that "The opening song of the album, 'Google Google' is an all-out techno dance number that is going to have a few legs shaking after the release of the film. Compared to other songs sung by Vijay, it is very urban and is full of sound effects, which go well with the beats".^[22] A critic from the IANS wrote that "Google Google", crooned by Vijay and Andrea Jeremiah with good-humoured lyrics, is an uplifting foot-tapping disco number. The lyrics subtly touch upon the susceptibility of modern-day relationship between a boy and girl".^[23]
