Grandview is a city in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 26,209 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
A post office called Grandview has been in operation since 1889. The city was named for the view obtained from the elevated town site.
Grandview is located at 38°53′6″N 94°31′21″W / 38.88500°N 94.52250°W (38.885007, -94.522578), along U.S. Route 71, bordering Kansas City to the south.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.79 square miles (38.31 km2), of which 14.73 square miles (38.15 km2) is land and 0.06 square miles (0.16 km2) is water.
The 2020 United States census counted 26,209 people, 10,255 households, and 5,718 families in Grandview. The population density was 1,779.3 per square mile (687.0/km2). There were 11,228 housing units at an average density of 762.3 per square mile (294.3/km2). The racial makeup was 42.02% (11,013) white, 38.16% (10,001) black or African-American, 0.79% (206) Native American, 1.61% (421) Asian, 0.16% (42) Pacific Islander, 6.47% (1,695) from other races, and 10.8% (2,831) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 11.8% (2,938) of the population.
Of the 10,255 households, 24.0% had children under the age of 18; 34.8% were married couples living together; 35.7% had a female householder with no husband present. Of all households, 36.5% consisted of individuals and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.4 and the average family size was 3.2.
22.1% of the population was under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34.7 years. For every 100 females, the population had 91.6 males. For every 100 females ages 18 and older, there were 91.8 males.
The 2016-2020 5-year American Community Survey estimates show that the median household income was $47,670 (with a margin of error of +/- $4,217) and the median family income was $57,476 (+/- $5,898). Males had a median income of $33,718 (+/- $2,408) versus $27,929 (+/- $2,407) for females. The median income for those above 16 years old was $31,198 (+/- $1,870). Approximately, 11.5% of families and 14.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 22.9% of those under the age of 18 and 8.7% of those ages 65 or over.
