Jack Butcher (born 1988 in Swindon, England) is a conceptual artist, designer, and entrepreneur best known as the founder of Visualize Value, a platform launched in 2019 that develops visual systems to simplify and critique complex concepts including markets, scarcity, consensus, and belief mechanics.[1][2] His work draws from a background in commercial graphic design, where he initially built a career creating visuals for major brands before transitioning to independent art and entrepreneurship.[3] Educated in graphic design at the University of Wales, Cardiff, Butcher relocated to New York City in 2010, where he worked at design agencies and later freelanced independently prior to pivoting toward minimalist data visualizations shared on social media, which evolved into the core of Visualize Value.[3][4]
Since entering the NFT space around 2021, Butcher's projects under Visualize Value—such as Checks, Opepen Edition, and VV Rare—have achieved significant commercial success, amassing over $1 billion in transaction volume on the Ethereum blockchain.[3][1] These generative art collections explore themes of value emergence and economic dynamics, often featuring black-and-white, abstract designs that critique traditional art markets.[5] In 2023, his Checks NFT series notably surpassed the trading volume of Bored Ape Yacht Club in secondary sales, reaching approximately 15.8K ETH (around $26 million at the time).[6] Butcher's innovative approaches, including pay-what-you-wish models like the 2025 Self Checkout installation at Art Basel Miami Beach, further highlight his blend of conceptual art and blockchain technology to democratize access to collectibles.[3]
