Birth and background

Jeff Jacobs was born in Kirkwood, Missouri. He grew up in Newport, Rhode Island. He is a 1977 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Career

Jeff Jacobs began his journalism career at newspapers in Michigan and New Jersey after graduating from college. He joined The Hartford Courant in 1984, where he initially covered the NHL's Hartford Whalers as a beat reporter for nine years. He then served as the Courant's sports columnist for 22 years, spending nearly 34 years total at the paper. In January 2018, he moved to Hearst Connecticut Media Group as a sports columnist. In 2021, he transitioned to local sports commentary and joined GameTimeCT as a columnist, focusing on high school and Connecticut sports. Throughout his career, Jacobs has covered UConn men's and women's basketball (including all four UConn men's national championships and 10 of the 11 women's titles), multiple Olympics, World Series, Super Bowls, and other major events. He is known for big scoops and human-interest stories beyond sports.

Personal life

Personal details

Jacobs lives in Eastern Connecticut with his wife Liz. They have two children, Katerina and Liam. He has survived two heart attacks: one in 2005 requiring quadruple bypass surgery and another in 2019 requiring double bypass surgery. Beyond these details, much of his personal life remains private.
