The Pemberton House in Columbus, Georgia, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 28, 1971. This recognition highlights the historical and architectural significance of the house, where John Pemberton lived with his family.

John Stith Pemberton died at the age of 57 in Atlanta, Georgia, from stomach cancer. At the time of his death, he was poor and addicted to morphine, having sold off much of his interest in Coca-Cola. His body was returned to Columbus, Georgia, for burial.
