Family and upbringing
Justin Gaston was born on August 12, 1988, in Pineville, Louisiana.[11] He was raised in a loving and stable family environment in Pineville, where his parents demonstrated affection toward each other and their children, fostering a home centered on strong relational values.[12] This upbringing emphasized principles such as respect, kindness, and commitment, which influenced Gaston's early understanding of family dynamics.[12] Gaston grew up in a Christian household, and he was baptized at the age of eight, marking an early engagement with his faith.[13]Education and early interests
Gaston attended Pineville High School in Pineville, Louisiana, where he participated in track and field events.[4] He competed in the pole vault, achieving a sixth-place finish at the 2005 Louisiana High School Athletic Association 4A State Championship meet.[13] During his high school years, Gaston developed a strong interest in music and performing, particularly country western genres influenced by 1990s artists such as Tracy Lawrence and Kenny Chesney.[3] His passion for singing was self-taught and grew from a lifelong love of music, which he later described as his primary drive.[14] These early pursuits in performance motivated his decision to graduate from high school early in 2005 at age 17 to pursue opportunities in entertainment.[3] With support from his family, who provided encouragement and modest financial assistance, Gaston moved to New York at age 17 for modeling opportunities before relocating to Los Angeles at 18 to focus on acting and music.[3] This transition marked the beginning of his professional endeavors beyond his athletic and local interests in Louisiana.Career
Music career
Gaston's interest in music began during his high school years in Pineville, Louisiana, where he participated in track and field but also nurtured a passion for singing.[4] His professional music career launched in 2008 as a contestant on the sixth season of the reality competition Nashville Star, where he competed against 11 other aspiring country artists.[1] He advanced to the top 12 but was eliminated in the third week, ultimately placing 10th overall after viewer votes.[15] During the show, Gaston delivered notable performances, including a cover of Train's "Drops of Jupiter" in week two and Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah" in an early episode, showcasing his pop-infused country style that drew mixed critiques for lacking traditional twang.[16] Following his early television exposure, Gaston pursued other endeavors before returning to music as an independent singer-songwriter in 2017 with the release of his demo mixtape Songs for Her, an eight-track collection emphasizing romantic ballads and upbeat love songs.[17] He continued with holiday-themed projects, including the four-song EP Christmas in Columbus in 2018, featuring original tracks like the title song and "Angry Elf"; the single "All We Want for Christmas" in 2019; and "A Covid Christmas Song" in 2020, which humorously addressed pandemic-era celebrations.[18][19] In 2024, Gaston marked a personal return to music with the Christmas single "Wrap You Up," inspired by his family life as a father of two daughters, blending heartfelt lyrics with festive country vibes.[20] By 2025, he expanded his output with the EP Happy Now and the single "Matches," further incorporating Christian influences alongside country elements, as seen in his reflections on faith-driven songwriting for projects like the soundtrack to God's Country Song. Gaston's style centers on themes of love, redemption, and spiritual growth, often drawing from personal experiences of fatherhood and faith, with all releases handled independently without major label support.[21][22]Modeling career
At age 17, in 2005, Gaston left his hometown of Pineville, Louisiana, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue opportunities in acting and music, where he quickly entered the modeling industry.[23][4] His early work focused on underwear and swimwear modeling, securing initial gigs that showcased his physique in commercial campaigns.[11] From 2006 onward, Gaston signed contracts with prominent brands, including Adidas for athletic apparel shoots, International Jock for underwear and swimwear features, and Hugo Boss for tailored menswear editorials.[11][24] Between 2006 and 2008, he appeared in high-profile photoshoots, such as a 2008 Hugo Boss underwear campaign photographed for International Jock, which highlighted his emerging presence in fashion advertising.[25] These assignments, often emphasizing fitness and style, established him as a go-to model for luxury and sportswear labels during his late teens.[24] Modeling gigs provided essential financial stability for Gaston in his early years in Los Angeles, allowing him to cover living expenses while attending acting auditions and building a professional network.[3][10] The visibility from these campaigns also helped cultivate his public image as a charismatic, photogenic talent, bridging his work in fashion to broader entertainment exposure.[10]Acting career
Gaston's entry into acting was facilitated by his modeling background, which provided initial visibility in the entertainment industry. He made his television debut with a guest appearance on the Fox series Glee in 2011, portraying a football player.[2] In 2014, Gaston secured his first major role in daytime television as Ben Weston on the NBC soap opera Days of Our Lives, signing a contract to play the mysterious brother of Jordan Ridgeway. His tenure on the show lasted less than four months, from February to May, after which he was replaced by Robert Scott Wilson amid reported creative differences.[26][27] Gaston returned to soaps in November 2020 with a temporary recurring role as Chance Chancellor on CBS's The Young and the Restless, stepping in for Donny Boaz who tested positive for COVID-19. This opportunity notably allowed him to co-star alongside his wife, Melissa Ordway, who portrays Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor, during key scenes including their characters' wedding amid the pandemic-era storyline. His portrayal spanned several weeks, concluding Boaz's temporary absence.[28][29] Following these soap stints, Gaston expanded into primetime television and film, appearing in guest roles on shows such as Single Ladies (2012), Game Change (2012), The Client List (2013), The Haunting of Sharon Tate (2019), and The Haves and the Have Nots (2018–2019), as well as a recurring part on Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots (2018–2019). He also starred in made-for-TV movies like The Unauthorized Full House Story (2015), where he played John Stamos, Until We Meet Again (2020), Santa Bootcamp (2022), and faith-based features including God's Country Song (2023). These projects marked a shift toward diverse genres, though his soap experience influenced casting in romantic and dramatic leads.[3] As of 2025, Gaston has largely stepped back from acting to prioritize music releases and family life, with no major on-screen projects announced following his 2023 film role; he has reflected on the abrupt ends to his soap engagements as challenging but formative to his versatile career path.[30]Personal life
Marriage
Justin Gaston met actress Melissa Ordway in 2010 while auditioning for roles in the horror film Escapee. During their chemistry read, which involved a hugging scene, Gaston immediately sensed a unique connection, later recalling it as a pivotal moment. Ordway shared that she felt an instant attraction, calling her mother shortly after to declare, "I'm in love," enamored by his looks and presence. The pair began dating soon after and got engaged 14 months later, in early 2012.[31][32][8] Gaston and Ordway married on September 22, 2012, in a private ceremony at a church in Atlanta, Georgia. The intimate event featured a traditional exchange of vows, followed by a kiss shared between the couple outside the venue, marking the start of their shared life in the entertainment industry. In the early years of their marriage, they navigated the demands of their acting careers while building a partnership grounded in mutual support and shared professional experiences.[33][34][3] Their professional lives have intersected notably, beginning with co-starring roles in Escapee and extending to Gaston's brief 2020 stint on The Young and the Restless, where he portrayed Chance Chancellor during the character's on-screen wedding to Ordway's Abby Newman. This real-life overlap added a layer of authenticity to their scenes and strengthened their bond. In September 2025, the couple celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary, with Ordway reflecting on their enduring love and the serendipity of their meeting.[8][32][35] Gaston and Ordway have described their relationship as effortlessly strong, attributing its longevity to open communication and a sense of good fortune in finding each other amid busy schedules. Balancing their careers in Hollywood involves intentional efforts, such as carving out even short date nights to maintain intimacy despite travel and filming commitments. These practices, combined with occasional collaborations, have helped them sustain a resilient partnership over more than a decade.[10][36][32]Children and family life
Justin Gaston and his wife, Melissa Ordway, adopted their first daughter, Olivia Christine, born on April 30, 2016. The couple welcomed Olivia into their home shortly after her birth and completed the adoption process, with the legal finalization occurring on February 27, 2017, during a court ceremony attended by family members. Ordway described the occasion as "the second most special day of my life," underscoring the profound emotional adjustment and joy of officially becoming parents after navigating infertility challenges.[37][38][39] Their family expanded further with the birth of their second daughter, Sophie Jolie, on December 9, 2017. The addition of Sophie required further adaptations, such as coordinating care for two infants amid demanding professional schedules in the entertainment industry. In 2024, Gaston, Ordway, and their daughters relocated from California to Nashville, Tennessee.[40][41] As of 2025, the family lives in Tennessee, where Gaston actively embraces fatherhood by prioritizing time with his daughters alongside his career in acting and music. He maintains work-life balance through flexible scheduling that allows involvement in daily activities like family trips and home projects, including renovations on a cabin in Hohenwald. Gaston has expressed appreciation for this phase, noting how it fosters stronger family bonds in a quieter setting.[20][42] Gaston and Ordway often share glimpses of their family life publicly via social media, posting about holidays, birthdays, and casual outings such as Father's Day tributes and seasonal celebrations. These updates highlight joyful routines and Gaston's hands-on parenting style, including moments of play and guidance with Olivia and Sophie.[43][44]Faith and interests
Justin Gaston identifies as a Christian, having been raised in a Christian household in Pineville, Louisiana, where he was baptized at the age of eight. He became more serious about his faith during his teenage years, viewing it as a foundational aspect of his personal growth and decision-making.[13][45] Gaston's spiritual life has been influenced by both his upbringing and his marriage to actress Melissa Ordway, particularly through shared challenges such as infertility, which he credits with deepening his reliance on prayer and trust in divine guidance. In a 2023 interview, he described learning to surrender control to God rather than seeking a complete picture of the future, a perspective shaped by these experiences. His faith continues to inform his daily approach, integrating spiritual practices into routines that emphasize unconditional love and purpose.[12][46] In interviews from 2023, including promotions for the faith-based film God's Country Song, Gaston discussed how his Christian beliefs guide his worldview, highlighting themes of redemption and divine love in his work and personal reflections. He has expressed that fatherhood has further enriched his understanding of God's love, reinforcing his commitment to spiritual growth.[47][48] Gaston's interests include participating in fatherhood-focused discussions, such as his 2023 appearance on The Dad Edge podcast, where he explored themes of faith and parenting resilience. He enjoys songwriting as a form of personal expression outside his professional music career, often using it to process emotions and creativity. In his leisure time, he plays ping pong and engages in music-related activities for relaxation. Additionally, Gaston has a particular affinity for holiday traditions, which he ties to seasonal music releases, including his 2024 Christmas single "Wrap You Up."[12][49][20]Filmography
