Kaliii, born Kaliya Ashley Ross on July 29, 2000, in Roswell, Georgia, is an American rapper of Panamanian descent recognized for her trap-influenced style, witty lyricism, and viral hits in the hip-hop scene. Raised primarily by her Panamanian mother, she began writing raps at age 12, drawing inspiration from artists like Aaliyah and Missy Elliott, and recorded her first tracks in a home studio built by her stepfather. Kaliii gained initial traction in 2020 when her single "Do a Bitch" went viral on TikTok, marking her entry into the independent rap circuit with early projects like the 2021 mixtape This Why They Mad Now and the 2022 release Toxic Chocolate. Her breakthrough came in 2023 with the single "Area Codes," released on March 17 via Trump Card and Atlantic Records, which interpolated Ludacris's 2001 track of the same name and peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart while reaching No. 54 on the Hot 100. Signed to Atlantic Records, she has since released EPs such as FCK Girl SZN (2023) and singles including "Gas You Up" (2024), "Big One" (2024), and "Dat Girl" (2025), amassing hundreds of millions of streams for "Area Codes" alone and earning platinum certification from the RIAA. Beyond music, Kaliii has expanded her career through collaborations on high-profile projects like the Barbie the Album soundtrack and management deals with SB Projects (2023) and publishing with Warner Chappell Music (2023), solidifying her position as a rising force in contemporary rap. In her personal life, she welcomed her first child in November 2024 with NFL player Justyn Ross.

Musical style

Kaliii's music is rooted in Southern hip-hop, particularly Atlanta drill and trap, characterized by sparse, bass-heavy production featuring 808s and piano loops. Her style blends confident, raunchy rap delivery with witty, flirtatious lyricism that often explores themes of female empowerment, sexuality, and self-assurance, described as "music for the girls" to boost listener confidence. She draws inspiration from artists like Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, and Aaliyah, incorporating catchy hooks, melodic elements, and energetic flows influenced by R&B and pop. While her early work favored trap-centric beats, later releases like "Area Codes" (2023) experiment with house and uptempo production, showcasing versatility.

Personal life

Kaliii is of Panamanian descent and was raised primarily by her mother in Roswell, Georgia. She previously dated rapper Duke Dennis. On November 27, 2024, she welcomed her first child, a daughter named Dailee, with her partner Justyn Ross, then a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (as of 2024).

Discography

Mixtapes

Kaliii released her debut mixtape, This Why They Mad Now, on January 16, 2021, as a self-released project distributed digitally through streaming platforms. The seven-track effort, produced primarily by DJ Taj and others, showcased her raw, confrontational style rooted in West Coast trap influences, with themes of empowerment and street life. Key tracks included "Do A Bitch," which gained traction after a remix featuring Rico Nasty was released later that year, propelling Kaliii's early visibility in the rap scene. Other notable songs were "Bad Bad Bad," "Spend Dat," and "Nasty Bitch," emphasizing her bold lyricism and minimalistic beats. The mixtape, clocking in at around 18 minutes, marked her transition from local SoundCloud uploads to a more structured release, though it received limited mainstream attention at the time. Her follow-up mixtape, Toxic Chocolate, arrived on March 11, 2022, again self-released and available on major streaming services. This eight-track project expanded on her sound with smoother R&B-infused trap elements, featuring collaborations with artists like Yung Bleu on "UonU," BIA on "Eat It Up," and Muni Long on "Chainzzz." Standout tracks such as "Standards," "Ms. Lick Back," and the title track "Toxic Chocolate" highlighted her versatility in blending melodic hooks with assertive bars about relationships and self-worth. The mixtape's release coincided with growing buzz around Kaliii, setting the stage for her 2022 single "Area Codes," which was later incorporated into the expanded Toxic Chocolate: Area Codes Edition on June 30, 2023, adding remixes and the hit track that peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. While Toxic Chocolate earned modest critical reception, with an average user rating of 2.4 out of 5 on Rate Your Music based on dozens of reviews praising its energy but noting production inconsistencies, it solidified her presence in the female rap landscape.

EPs

Kaliii has released two extended plays (EPs) throughout her career, continuing with major-label efforts under Atlantic Records. These EPs showcase her evolution from independent trap-infused rap to more polished, viral-driven releases, often featuring collaborations and themes of empowerment, relationships, and street life. Kaliii's EP, FCK GIRL SZN, was issued on October 13, 2023, via Atlantic Records, featuring four tracks clocking in at approximately 10 minutes. This project leans into high-energy anthems of female independence, with tracks including "Say Too Much" (featuring Young Nudy), "Can't Get 'Em" (featuring GloRilla), "Stand On It," and "K Toven (Remix)" (featuring NLE Choppa). Produced with trap influences, it reflects her matured sound post-signing, emphasizing catchy hooks and unapologetic vibes that align with her social media-driven persona. The EP solidified her position in the rap scene, peaking on streaming charts and earning praise for its brevity and impact.

Singles

Kaliii's singles have been instrumental in establishing her as an emerging force in contemporary hip-hop, often blending trap beats with assertive, viral-friendly lyrics that resonate on platforms like TikTok and streaming services. Her music frequently features collaborations with producers and fellow rappers, contributing to her rapid ascent since her independent beginnings in Atlanta. As a lead artist, Kaliii debuted with "Do a Bitch" in 2021, a track that showcased her confident delivery and quickly became one of her early streaming successes, amassing significant plays and helping to solidify her underground buzz. Later that year, she released "MMM MMM" featuring producer ATL Jacob, which highlighted her melodic flow over heavy bass production and garnered over 4 million plays on SoundCloud alone. These early releases laid the groundwork for her major-label breakthrough. The pivotal moment arrived with "Area Codes" in 2023, released March 17 via Atlantic Records, an interpolation of Ludacris's 2001 hit that exploded on TikTok for its catchy hook and dance challenges. The single debuted at No. 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 2023, marking her first chart entry, and peaked at No. 33 on the Hot 100 while reaching No. 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart; it topped the Emerging Artists chart and was certified gold by the RIAA in October 2023 for 500,000 units. Building on this momentum, subsequent singles like "Ms. Lick Back" (2023) and its remix further amplified her presence with raw, confrontational energy. In 2024, Kaliii maintained her output with tracks such as "Flush Em," emphasizing themes of independence and street savvy, and "Hot Girl Maybach," which continued her streak of high-energy anthems. Other notable lead efforts include collaborative singles like "Big One" featuring Monaleo (2024) and "Gas You Up" featuring Hunxho (2024 extended mix), both of which blended her style with rising peers to boost streaming metrics. Entering 2025, she released "Dat Girl" and "Good News (Remix)" as singles through Atlantic Records, continuing her focus on empowering narratives amid evolving production styles. Kaliii has also made impactful appearances as a featured artist, expanding her reach through high-profile collaborations. In 2022, she contributed a verse to Baby Tate's "Sl*t Him Out Again," a bold rap cut that underscored her chemistry in ensemble tracks and achieved widespread streaming rotation. A clean variant, "Turn Him Out Again," followed shortly after, reinforcing the song's club appeal. In 2024, she joined G-Eazy and Coi Leray on "Femme Fatale," a seductive trap track released via RCA Records that highlighted her ad-lib prowess. By 2025, features on "Red Light Special" from TheARTI$t's album Who I Am (June 2025) and "What's Tea?" (KITSCHKRIEG, 2024) demonstrated her ongoing demand in the industry, with these cuts integrating her signature vibe into diverse projects.
