Kate Pang is a Taiwanese actress known for her successful career in Singaporean television, particularly as a former full-time artiste with Mediacorp, where she appeared in numerous popular dramas and earned critical recognition for her performances. Born on 11 March 1983 in Taipei, Taiwan, Pang began her entertainment career as a model in her home country before being discovered by Mediacorp representatives and signing an exclusive contract with the broadcaster, which launched her into Singapore's Chinese-language television scene. She gained prominence through roles in series such as A Tale of 2 Cities, Joys of Life, The Oath, and Love at Risk, winning the Star Award for Best Newcomer in 2012. Pang served as a full-time Mediacorp artiste until 2017 and continued to take on acting projects on an ad hoc basis thereafter, including local productions up to 2019 and more recent appearances in both Singaporean and regional works. In 2013, she married Singaporean actor Andie Chen, with whom she has two children, a son born in 2014 and a daughter born in 2016. The family relocated to Taiwan in 2020 seeking better professional opportunities but returned to Singapore in 2024 to support their children's education, allowing Pang to resume local acting commitments.

Early life

Childhood in Taiwan

Kate Pang was born on 11 March 1983 in Taipei, Taiwan. Pang's parents divorced when she was two years old, after which she was primarily raised by her grandmother in Taiwan. She grew up under her grandmother's care during her childhood years in the country.

Early independence and modelling career

Pang's parents divorced when she was two years old and she was raised by her grandmother in Taiwan. Later, she relocated to Taipei to pursue her studies, where she lived with her cousin in a cheap rented flat. This period taught her independence as she adapted to living on her own terms. At the age of 16, Pang moved out and began her career as a model in Taiwan, earning a living through modelling assignments. She initially found fulfilment in this work, but later developed an interest in acting despite her Taiwan-based manager's warnings about the highly competitive nature of the acting industry there, where performers often faced financial hardship. When MediaCorp representatives travelled to Taiwan to scout and cast new talent, Pang auditioned for the opportunity and impressed them enough to secure a contract with the Singapore broadcaster. She arrived in Singapore in early 2010 to begin her professional engagement under the agreement.

Career

Entry into Mediacorp and debut roles

Kate Pang relocated to Singapore in 2011 and signed a contract with Mediacorp after impressing during an audition for new talent. She initially intended to stay for only two years but continued as a full-time Mediacorp artiste until 31 October 2017. Her acting career in Singapore began that year with supporting roles in several Channel 8 dramas. In 2011, she portrayed Lin Le in A Tale of 2 Cities, Xu Siwen in Devotion, and Zhong Ling in On the Fringe. She followed these with Sun Lianjing in Joys of Life (2012), where she met her future husband Andie Chen, and Ni Qingqing in Break Free (2012). These early appearances marked her transition from modeling in Taiwan to television acting in Singapore.

Major television acting roles

Kate Pang continued her television acting career with several prominent roles in Mediacorp productions following her early appearances. She portrayed Liao Meihao in the 2013 drama Love at Risk. The following year, she played Pauline in the 2014 series Entangled. After the conclusion of her full-time contract with Mediacorp on 31 October 2017, Pang transitioned to freelance and ad hoc acting engagements, which allowed her to balance family commitments while selectively returning to screen projects. In 2018, she appeared as Deng Baoli in 118 Reunion and as Amy Xiaoya in Love at Cavenagh Bridge. She also took on the role of Joe in the 2019 film When Ghost Meets Zombie. Pang's television work has continued on a selective basis, with upcoming roles in 2025 including Liu Xiangxiang in I Believe I Can Fly and Amy in Something Before And After. These projects mark her return to Mediacorp and other platforms after a period of limited local screen appearances.

Variety show hosting work

Kate Pang has hosted several variety and talk shows for Mediacorp, demonstrating her engaging on-screen presence in lifestyle, relationship, and social-issue formats. Her work in this area often involves co-hosting with other celebrities, allowing her to facilitate discussions and interact with guests or participants in a relatable manner. In 2012, she hosted My Fair Ladies (小女人大世界), marking her entry into variety hosting. In 2015, she co-hosted the talk show Face Off (这样是怎样), where she joined presenters such as Danny Yeo to explore contemporary social topics through panel discussions and guest interviews. She co-hosted the second season of Mars Vs Venus (金星火星大不同2) in 2016, appearing in episodes 27-39 alongside her husband Andie Chen to address marriage and relationship dynamics from male and female perspectives. In 2017, she served as one of the hosts for Little Maestros (小当家), a programme featuring journeys across Asia to highlight youth experiences and challenges, co-hosting with Andie Chen, Guo Liang, and Charlyn Lin across 10 episodes. She has additionally hosted segments for the Star Awards, including red carpet coverage in multiple years.

Personal life

Marriage to Andie Chen

Pang and Chen first met on the set of the MediaCorp drama Joys of Life in early 2012, where they initially did not get along and frequently teased each other due to their similar sharp personalities. Their dynamic changed while filming Break Free later that year, as they portrayed lovers and spent extended time together, sharing personal challenges and discovering shared habits, mindsets, and a mutual sense of ease that led them to view each other as life partners. After dating secretly for just over a year, the couple solemnised their marriage at the Registry of Marriages on November 24, 2013, followed by an intimate family dinner. They publicly announced their marriage the same day, revealing that Pang was 10 weeks pregnant with their first child, a development they described as a happy surprise despite speculation about it being a "shotgun" wedding. The couple have two children, son Aden and daughter Avery.

Children and family experiences

Kate Pang and her husband Andie Chen have two children together: a son named Aden born in 2014 and a daughter named Avery born in 2016. Their family experienced a significant challenge in April 2015 when Pang suffered a miscarriage at approximately one month into her pregnancy with their second child, attributed to chromosomal abnormalities that prevented proper fetal development. She underwent a medical procedure to remove the non-viable fetus, and the couple chose to speak publicly about the loss to normalize the experience, noting that it is common among expectant mothers. Following the miscarriage, Pang and Chen directed greater attention and affection toward their young son Aden, cherishing everyday moments with him more deeply as they acknowledged the fragility of forming a life. Pang later described the ordeal as a reminder of life's unpredictability and expressed a focus on recovery and family before pursuing further pregnancies. In June 2016, the couple welcomed their daughter Avery, born via natural delivery three days before her due date and on the same day as Andie Chen's birthday, marking a joyful recovery after the previous loss. Avery weighed 3.65 kg at birth, and Pang endured a more challenging labor compared to Aden's delivery but recovered well alongside mother and child being reported in good health. The couple has occasionally shared insights into their parenting approach, emphasizing teamwork and cherishing family time with Aden and Avery.

Business ventures

Kandie Family media platforms

In 2016, Kate Pang co-founded Kandie Network with her husband Andie Chen to share their family life and parenting experiences through online content. The venture, which involved significant behind-the-scenes efforts including scriptwriting by Pang, quickly grew to demand substantial time, prompting the couple to leave Mediacorp in October 2017 to concentrate on the project full-time. By 2017, the platform had become known as Kandie Family, evolving into a dedicated family media business focused on relatable parenting and daily family perspectives. Kandie Family now operates across major social media channels, including YouTube—where it originated as a family channel—and Instagram, featuring content centered on the couple and their children's lives. The brand continues to emphasize authentic family-oriented media production as a collaborative effort between Pang and Chen.

Restaurant ownership

Kate Pang co-owns the Sichuan restaurant Tian Tian You Yu with media personality Marcus Chin. The restaurant specializes in authentic Sichuan grilled fish and related dishes. The first outlet opened in May 2021 at 111 Somerset in Singapore. Originally planned to launch on April 24, 2021, the opening was postponed due to delays in securing the fire safety certificate and eventually took place on May 11, 2021. A second outlet was later opened along East Coast Road.

Awards and nominations

Star Awards recognitions

Kate Pang has earned several nominations and one win at the Star Awards, Mediacorp's annual awards honoring achievements in Singapore television. She won the Best Newcomer award in 2012 for her performance in the drama series A Tale of 2 Cities. In 2013, Pang received nominations in two categories, reflecting her growing presence in both drama and variety content. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the series Joys of Life. She also earned a nomination for Favourite Host for her work on the variety program My Fair Ladies. Pang continued to gain popularity recognition later in her career, receiving a nomination for Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes at the 2017 Star Awards.

Other nominations and brand work

Kate Pang has received additional nominations at the Star Awards in various categories. In 2014, she was nominated for the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes. She also earned a nomination for Most Popular Regional Artiste (Indonesia) that year. In 2016, she was nominated for Best Programme Host for her work on the talk show Face Off!.
