''Kie Nakai'' is a Japanese actress known for her supporting roles in Japanese films and television dramas during the late 1970s and 1980s, most notably earning the Best Supporting Actress award at the Yokohama Film Festival for her performance in Kanashii kibun de joke (1985). She was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Japan Academy Prize for her work in Ah! Nomugi Toge: Shinryoku Hen and Seiha (both 1982). In addition to acting, Nakai has pursued work as an essayist. Born on November 27, 1957, in Tokyo, Nakai is the daughter of actor Keiji Sada (who died in 1964) and the older sister of actor Kiichi Nakai. She graduated from Waseda University, where she studied Japanese Literature, and made her acting debut during her university years. Her film credits include Queen Bee (1978), The House of Hanging (1979), Conquest (1982), Theater of Life (1983), and Family Without a Dinner Table (1985), among others. She has appeared in various television dramas as well and is married with two daughters.
