Early life

Family background and education

Kitty Yuen, originally named Yuen Pui-yee (阮佩儀), was born on November 23, 1970, in Hong Kong. She grew up in the Wah Fu Estate and maintains a close bond with her parents. Her father worked in construction, and she has described him from childhood as an "iron man" (鐵人) due to his toughness and resilience in the demanding field of site work (做地盤). For her primary education, Yuen attended Kwong Yuet Tong Kai Yuet Primary School (廣悅堂基悅小學). She then studied at Sacred Heart Canossian College (嘉諾撒聖心書院) for secondary school, where she scored 14 points in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination. She later earned a bachelor's degree from the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Yuen has a petite stature of 148 cm, a lifelong physical trait that has been noted in descriptions of her throughout her life.

Radio career

Commercial Radio Hong Kong tenure

Kitty Yuen joined Commercial Radio Hong Kong in October 1994, initially working in the advertising creation department. In 1996, she made her on-air debut by voicing the Sunday evening comedy program Waste Talk Fiction, also referred to as Waste Talk Novels, where her performance gained recognition from station executives. She transitioned to a full-time DJ role in 1997 and formed a long-term professional partnership with Sammy Leung that same year, leading to several popular co-hosted programs. Their collaborations included Sammy's Perverted Paradise in 1997 and Sammy and Kitty Hungry Van in 1998, while Yuen also hosted the solo program Once Upon a Time There Was a Kitty Yuen in 1998. In 2006, Yuen and Sammy Leung received a two-month suspension from Commercial Radio Hong Kong following controversy over on-air content, specifically a poll related to their program. From 2009 onward, she co-hosted the long-running morning show Good Morning King, also known as Early Tyrant King, alongside Sammy Leung and other hosts, establishing it as one of the station's most enduring programs. She later hosted the program Michelin Talk as part of her continued work at the station. On October 31, 2024, Yuen concluded her 31-year radio career at Commercial Radio Hong Kong with the final episode of Good Morning King, explaining that she wished to dedicate more time to her aging parents. As her popularity on radio increased in the late 1990s, she began transitioning to television work.

Television career

Hosting and variety programs

Kitty Yuen made her television debut as a guest on TVB's Super Trio Series in 1998. Her established fame from radio in the 1990s and 2000s helped facilitate her move into TV hosting. In 2006, she co-hosted the game show 15/16 with Sammy Leung on TVB, marking her first major hosting role on the network. She gained particular recognition for co-hosting the long-running food reality series Neighborhood Gourmet (街坊廚神) with King Kong Lee, starting in 2011 across multiple seasons through 2015 and beyond, where their lively chemistry and explorations of local street food and cooking challenges became a highlight. The program featured the duo visiting neighborhood eateries, learning from chefs, and competing in cook-offs judged by locals. In 2020, Yuen decided not to renew her contract with TVB, concluding her tenure with the network to pursue other opportunities. She subsequently hosted Battle Feel on ViuTV in 2021 and The One Take Show in 2022, continuing her variety hosting work on the platform.

Acting roles

Kitty Yuen has built a steady acting career in Hong Kong cinema and television, often appearing in supporting roles that highlight her comedic talents and distinctive presence. Her film debut came in 1999 with a cameo as a recycle factory worker in the action comedy Gorgeous. She followed this with roles in several notable films, including Bitchy in the romantic comedy Everyday Is Valentine (2001), Tweetie in the fantasy action film The White Dragon (2004), and a fortune teller in the ensemble comedy 72 Tenants of Prosperity (2010). Her breakthrough in scripted television occurred with the TVB sitcom War of the Genders (2000), where she played Mai Siu Ngo, nicknamed "Happy," across all 100 episodes. This long-running role marked her entry into prominent TVB drama work and helped transition her public profile toward acting alongside her other entertainment activities. Yuen subsequently featured in a variety of TVB series, including Ng Siu-Yi in D.I.E. (2008) and its sequel D.I.E. Again (2009) as So Bik, King Chi Ko in the miniseries Don Juan DeMercado (2010), Man Ching (also known as "Maggie") in Only You (2011), Kam Kwong in Come On, Cousin (2014), and Lo Gwai Fong in Love as a Predatory Affair (2016). She took on the role of Kwai Lai Fu in the supernatural series The Exorcist's Meter (2017) and appeared in a related capacity in its 2020 sequel. More recently, she portrayed Mimi in the 2024 series Margaret & David Tie and provided voice acting as Mrs. Yu in the animated Food Buddies (2023).

The identity of her husband has not been publicly revealed. There is no public information about children. Speculation has circulated regarding possible connections or introductions related to her colleague 森美, but such claims remain unconfirmed. Following her departure from Commercial Radio Hong Kong at the end of October 2025 after 31 years, Yuen launched her YouTube channel "阮小樂園" (Ruan Xiao Le Yuan) in November 2025, where she shares VLOGs about daily life and personal experiences. Her decision to leave the station was motivated by a desire to spend more time with family and enjoy life, reflecting her ongoing close bond with her aging parents.

Philanthropy and advocacy

Kitty Yuen has been a prominent advocate for animal welfare, particularly through her long-term association with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Hong Kong. She has supported the organization's efforts to promote animal welfare through participation in various key campaigns. In 2009, Yuen published a book titled DEEGree of Love about her experiences with her chihuahua Dee Dee, directing all proceeds from sales to the SPCA. She donated the HK$15,000 raised from the book to the organization in 2010. This contribution aligns with her personal passion for animal care as a pet owner.
