Meka Venkata Pratap Apparao

Meka Venkata Pratap Apparao (born 11 October 1950)[1] is an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh.[2] He is a three-time MLA from Nuzvid Assembly Constituency in Krishna District. He won for the third time in 2019.[3] He is nominated by YSR Congress Party to contest the Nuzvid assembly seat in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election to be held on 13 May 2024.[4]

Pratap hails from Nuzvid in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh. He is the son of Meka Venkata Swetha Chalapathi Venu Gopala Apparao of Meka family,[5] which has ruled the Nuzvid seat for over half a century.[6] He is the grandson of Meka Rangaiah Apparao, former vice chancellor of Andhra University. He is a businessman. He did his graduation in commerce from DAR College, Nuzvid in 1971. He married Sujatha Devi.[citation needed]

Career

Pratap was elected as Nuzvid MLA for the first time in 2004 on Indian National Congress Party ticket.[7] He joined YSR Congress Party in 2014 and contested the Nuzvid seat representing YSRCP and won the 2014 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election defeating Muddaraboina Venkateswara Rao by a margin of 10,397 votes.[8] He was re-elected for the third time winning on YSRCP seat defeating Rao again by a margin of 16,210 votes in the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election.[9]
