Nechanice

Etymology
[edit]The name is derived from the personal name Nechan, meaning "the village of Nechan's people".[3]
Geography
[edit]Nechanice is located about 13 kilometres (8 mi) west of Hradec Králové. It lies in the East Elbe Table. The highest point is the hill Jedlický vrch at 302 m (991 ft) above sea level.
History
[edit]The first written mention of Nechanice is from 1228. In 1867, it was promoted to a town. Nechanice lost the town status in 1949, but it was restored in 1992.[4]

Transport
[edit]There are no railways or major roads running through Nechanice.
Sights
[edit]The main landmark of Nechanice is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The original church, which was as old as the town, was completely destroyed by a fire in 1827. The current Empire church replaced it in 1833.[7]
