Niyi Adebayo

Otunba Adeniyi Adebayolisten (born 4 February 1958) is a Nigerian lawyer and politician who served as the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment of Nigeria from August 2019 to May 2023. He previously served as the first democratically elected governor of Ekiti State from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003 on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

He is currently a member of the All Progressives Congress, and is a top chieftain in the party. He was appointed minister of trade in August 2019 by President Muhammadu Buhari following the announcement of his second cabinet. Adebayo has extensive experience in a wide range of disputes and legal and advisory work. His more notable achievements have been in the areas of project finance, oil and gas, contract procurement and business facilitation. He is a member of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the International Bar Association (IBA).

Niyi Adebayo is from Ekiti State in Nigeria and his father was late Adeyinka Adebayo, a former Military Governor of the now defunct Western Region of Nigeria. Oyeniyi started his career with Arthur Adersen as an auditor and financial consultant to oil and gas production companies. He also worked with Lynch Private Wealth Management Group in Los Angeles, USA. He also served as General Manager and Head of National Distribution at First City Monument Bank and as the executive director at Enterprise bank until December 2014.

Otunba Niyi Adebayo was the first elected civilian Governor of Ekiti State from 29 May, 1999 to 29 May, 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy (AD) . On December 2024, Adebayo was appointment by the Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanj as his Chief of Staff. Before he resumed office as chief of staff on 2nd January, 2025, he was already the commissioner for budget, Economic Planning and Performance Management.

He attended University of Lagos where he studied Law and obtained (LL.B Hons).

Adebayo is a keen sportsman and plays tennis, squash and football.

His late father was a military governor who ruled the now Western Region of Nigeria from 1966 to 1971, after the demise of Colonel Francis Adekunle Fajuyi in the 1966 coup.

Adabyo married Erelu Angela Adebayo at the age of 25. He has two daughters and a son.
