[edit]Falk started his career at Middelfart G&BK and moved to Odense Boldklub (OB) alongside future Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan player, Christian Eriksen in 2005.[2] In 2009 he signed for OB, where he started playing for the second team, before becoming a part of the first team squad from the 2010–11 season.[3] He made his debut for OB in 2010 against AGF. Falk then signed a contract extension with OB, keeping him at the club until 30 June 2016.

Falk made his Copenhagen debut on 13 July 2016 and scored the final goal in the 3–0 Champions League qualification away win over Crusaders.[5] In his first season at the club, he won the double; the Danish Superliga and Danish Cup.[6]

Birth and upbringing
Rasmus Falk Østergaard was born on 15 January 1992 in Middelfart, Denmark.[7][8] Middelfart, a municipality in the Region of Southern Denmark with a population of around 40,000, lies on the Little Belt strait connecting the Jutland peninsula to the island of Funen. Falk spent his early childhood in this coastal town.[9] As an adult, Falk measures 1.77 meters in height and weighs approximately 65 kilograms, attributes that trace back to his physical development during youth.[7][10]Initial football involvement
Rasmus Falk began his football journey at a young age in his hometown of Middelfart, Denmark, where he joined the youth ranks of Middelfart G&BK, a local club known for nurturing talent in the region.[11] As a child, Falk developed his skills alongside peers in the club's junior teams, participating in routine training sessions that emphasized basic techniques and team play typical of Danish grassroots football.[12] One of Falk's key early experiences came through local youth competitions, where he played with future international star Christian Eriksen, forming a close friendship and partnership on the pitch during their time at Middelfart G&BK.[13] Their standout performances in these tournaments caught the attention of scouts.[11]Club career
Youth career
Rasmus Falk began his organized football involvement at the youth academy of Middelfart G&BK, where he developed initial skills alongside notable talents like Christian Eriksen.[13] In June 2005, at the age of 13, Falk transferred to the youth academy of Odense Boldklub (OB), one of Denmark's established clubs for nurturing young players.[14] He spent the next four years in OB's youth ranks, focusing on technical and tactical growth as a central midfielder under the club's structured training program.[15] In July 2009, Falk advanced to OB's U19 team, a significant step in his development that involved competing in national youth leagues and preparing for professional opportunities.[16]Odense Boldklub (first stint)
Rasmus Falk made his senior professional debut for Odense Boldklub on 16 May 2010, coming on as a substitute in a 3–0 Superliga win against AGF Aarhus at the age of 18.[17][18] Having progressed through the club's youth academy since age 13, Falk initially featured sparingly in the 2009–10 season before earning a more regular role the following year.[19] During the 2010–11 Superliga season, Falk transitioned into a forward and attacking midfielder, making 12 appearances, scoring once, and providing 4 assists as OB finished fifth in the league.[20] His breakthrough came in 2011–12, where he became a key contributor with 27 league appearances, 4 goals, and 2 assists, including 2 goals in 4 UEFA Europa League qualifying matches that helped OB advance to the group stage.[20] Falk's versatility and pace on the wing were evident in standout performances, such as his goal against Randers FC in March 2012, which secured a crucial 2–1 victory amid OB's push for European qualification. He also helped OB win the Danish Cup in 2015. Falk's development continued through the mid-2010s, with consistent starts in midfield and forward roles; in 2013–14, he recorded 6 goals and 4 assists in 29 Superliga matches, while the 2015–16 season marked his most productive, featuring 31 appearances, 6 goals, and a league-high 12 assists for OB.[20] In December 2012, amid growing interest from larger clubs, OB extended his contract until June 2016 to secure his services.[21] No loan spells occurred during this period, as Falk remained a mainstay in the first team. However, on 20 January 2016, with his deal nearing its end, he signed a pre-contract with FC Copenhagen, departing OB after 145 Superliga appearances to join the league leaders at the season's conclusion.[22]FC Copenhagen
Rasmus Falk joined FC Copenhagen from Odense Boldklub in July 2016 on a four-year contract, marking his transition to one of Denmark's premier clubs. He made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut in a 3–0 UEFA Champions League qualifying victory over Crusaders on 13 July 2016, sealing the win with a long-range strike in the second half. During his debut season (2016–17), Falk adapted quickly as a central midfielder, contributing to the team's successful campaign that culminated in a domestic double, securing both the Danish Superliga title and the Danish Cup. His intelligent play in tight spaces and defensive contributions helped stabilize the midfield, allowing Copenhagen to dominate domestically despite a group stage exit in the Champions League.[23][3] Over the subsequent seasons, Falk evolved from a rotational squad player to a regular starter and key figure in Copenhagen's midfield, amassing 339 appearances, 30 goals, and 48 assists by the end of his tenure. He played pivotal roles in two Champions League group stage campaigns (2016–17 and 2023–24), as well as notable Europa League runs, including scoring just 27 seconds into a 2017 round-of-32 match against Ajax and netting in the 2020 quarter-final win over İstanbul Başakşehir (3–0 on aggregate). His performances earned praise, such as from Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær after a 2020 Europa League last-16 clash in 2020, where Falk's skill and tenacity stood out despite the defeat. Falk also contributed to seven Superliga titles (2016–17, 2018–19, 2019–20, 2021–22, 2022–23, 2023–24, 2024–25) and three Danish Cups (2016–17, 2023, 2025) during his nine years, often providing leadership in midfield transitions and set-piece execution.[3][24][25][26] Falk's role grew into one of quiet authority, bridging generations of players and influencing team culture with his professionalism, as noted by club management during his 2023 contract extension to 2025. He became a leading figure in tactical developments, adapting to new playing styles while mentoring younger talents. However, injuries interrupted his progress, including thigh issues in the late 2010s and knee problems in the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons that sidelined him for several months each time. By summer 2025, after helping secure the 2024–25 Superliga title, Falk departed as a club legend, having left an indelible mark on Copenhagen's sustained success in both domestic and European arenas.[27][28][3]Return to Odense Boldklub
In July 2025, Rasmus Falk returned to Odense Boldklub (OB) from FC Copenhagen on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract until June 2028.[7] The move was motivated by his desire to be closer to his family on the island of Fyn and to take on a new challenge at the club where he began his professional career.[29] Upon joining OB, Falk was appointed club captain, leveraging his extensive experience to lead the midfield in the Danish Superliga.[30] In the early stages of the 2025–26 season, he adapted quickly to the leadership role, becoming a regular starter and contributing to the team's midfield stability with his tactical awareness and passing range.[31] By mid-November 2025, Falk had featured in 12 Superliga matches and 2 Danish Cup matches (14 total), accumulating over 1,200 minutes and recording three assists, helping OB maintain competitiveness despite inconsistent results.[31][32] A notable leadership moment came after OB's 1–4 home defeat to Brøndby IF on October 27, 2025, when Falk publicly voiced his frustration over the team's defensive errors and lack of focus, emphasizing the need for greater individual responsibility to turn around their form.[33] His candid post-match comments underscored his commitment to elevating OB's performance as they aimed to climb the Superliga standings.[33]International career
Youth international career
Rasmus Falk began his youth international career with the Denmark U16 team in 2007, marking the start of his progression through the national youth setup. He continued with the U17 team in 2008, featuring in matches such as a friendly against Ukraine where he substituted in during the second half. Falk then advanced to the U18 level, gaining experience in development matches that honed his midfield skills ahead of higher age groups. At the U19 level, Falk made his debut in October 2010 and earned two caps by December 2012, contributing to qualification efforts and friendlies without scoring. His time with the U19s focused on building tactical awareness in competitive environments, preparing him for senior youth opportunities.[34] Falk's most prominent youth international phase was with the Denmark U21 team from January 2011 to June 2015, where he accumulated 12 caps. He participated in UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers, including a full 90-minute appearance in a 2011 qualifier against the Faroe Islands. Falk's standout performances came during the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in the Czech Republic, where he featured in three matches, scoring once in the 2–0 group stage win over Serbia on 23 June 2015 to help Denmark top Group A and advance to the semi-finals against Sweden.[35][5]Senior international career
Rasmus Falk earned his first call-up to the Denmark senior national team in August 2013, ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He made his debut on 6 September 2013, starting in a 2–1 away victory against Malta at Ta' Qali National Stadium, where he played the full first half before being substituted at halftime.[36] The selection was a surprise to observers, as Falk had recently been promoted from the under-21 squad and was viewed as an emerging goal-scoring option in midfield. Falk received further call-ups in subsequent years, including for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, marking his return to the senior squad after a three-year absence from the senior level.[37] However, he did not feature in matches during that period, reflecting the intense competition for midfield positions under national team coaches. His opportunities remained sporadic, influenced by selection preferences favoring established players and his commitments at club level with Odense Boldklub and later FC Copenhagen. Falk's second senior appearance came on 8 September 2020, during a UEFA Nations League match against England at Wembley Stadium, where he entered as a substitute in the 76th minute and played the final 14 minutes in a 0–0 draw.[38] This call-up followed strong form at FC Copenhagen, but it proved to be his last involvement with the senior team.[39] Over his international career spanning 2013 to 2020, Falk accumulated just two caps for Denmark, both without scoring a goal. As of November 2025, he has not received further senior call-ups.[38]Career statistics
