Composition
[edit]Running with the Wolves is an electronic EP.[1] According to Aurora, every song on the EP has a different theme: "a very morbid one, a dreamy one, an animalistic one and then a quite sad one."[2] "Runaway" was released as the lead single of the EP on 7 February 2015 through Petroleum Records.[3] The title track was released as the second and final single of the album. The song has also been adapted to the film Wolfwalkers (2020) produced by Tom Moore. Previous singles "Awakening" and "Under Stars" were included on the vinyl edition of the EP.

Campobasso FC's history and ownership acquisition
Campobasso FC, based in Campobasso, Italy, was founded in 1919 as Unione Sportiva Campobasso. The club experienced its golden era in the 1970s and 1980s, competing in Serie B, Italy's second tier, during the 1980s. However, financial difficulties led to bankruptcy in 1990, after which it was refounded multiple times, dropping to lower divisions and even amateur leagues. In 2020, American businessman Matt Rizzetta's North Sixth Group acquired a minority stake in the club, which was then in the Eccellenza league (fifth tier). Under this investment, Campobasso achieved consecutive promotions, reaching Serie D in 2021 and Serie C in 2024. In November 2022, television personalities Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos joined as minority investors through North Sixth Group, which holds the controlling interest. The couple's involvement was inspired by their Italian heritage—Ripa's family traces back to Calabria, and Consuelos has Molisan roots—and a desire to support an underdog club with a passionate fanbase known as the "Lupi" (Wolves). Rizzetta, Ripa, and Consuelos have described the project as a community-driven revival, emphasizing sustainable growth and fan engagement in the underserved Molise region.[3][4] The 2025 season marked the club's first full year in Serie C under this American-backed ownership, facing challenges like roster building, coaching changes, and infrastructure improvements while balancing competitive goals with financial stability.[1]Series conception and production
The docuseries Running with the Wolves was conceived in late 2024 as a way to document Ripa and Consuelos's unexpected journey into soccer ownership, drawing parallels to high-profile projects like Welcome to Wrexham. Produced by Left/Right Productions (known for documentaries like The Jinx) and Milojo Productions (Ripa and Consuelos's company), in partnership with ESPN, the four-part series focuses on the 2025 Serie C season. Filming began in early 2025, capturing key events such as Ripa's first visit to Campobasso, match-day experiences, ownership decisions, and interactions with the local community.[1][5] Directors and producers emphasized an intimate, fly-on-the-wall approach to highlight the personal dynamics of the couple's transatlantic involvement, including travel from New York to Italy and collaborations with Rizzetta. The production incorporated interviews with players, coaches, fans, and executives to showcase the club's cultural significance in Molise. Post-production wrapped in June 2025, aligning with the July 29 premiere on ESPN and ESPN+. The series aims to blend celebrity storytelling with authentic sports drama, underscoring themes of resilience and passion for the game.[6][7]Musical content

Critical reviews
Running with the Wolves received positive reviews from critics upon its July 2025 premiere, with praise for its charming portrayal of Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' involvement in Campobasso FC, though some noted similarities to other sports ownership docuseries like Welcome to Wrexham.[11][12] In an August 2025 review, Decider described the series as "undeniably charming," highlighting Mark Consuelos' genuine passion for soccer and the small-town Italian setting, while critiquing segments featuring Ripa as the bemused spouse as the least compelling and noting the show's structural familiarity to other documentaries.[11] The Wall Street Journal's July 2025 review called it a "refreshing and frank" four-part series, emphasizing the unique married-couple dynamic in managing the third-tier Italian club, including their enthusiasm, quarrels, and operational challenges like player acquisitions and coaching decisions.[12] As of November 2025, aggregate critic scores were unavailable on sites like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes due to limited professional reviews.
