During 1858 Morse received a number of honors and titles. He was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society. The Sultan of Turkey awarded him the Decoration of Honor in diamonds. He also received gold medals from Württemberg and France. Denmark gave him the Cross of the Order of Danebrog. Spain made him a Knight Commander of the Order of Isabella the Catholic. Portugal made him a Commander of the Order of the Tower and Sword.
