Sara Kadefors (born 19 September 1965) is a Swedish writer and film director.[1]

Key Information

She was born in Gothenburg and grew up in Landvetter. From 1989 to 1996, she was host for a number of popular radio and television programs. Her first novel Långlördag i city, published in 2001, received an award from the Swedish Writers' Union [sv]. Her second novel Sandor Slash Ida, published in the same year, was awarded the August Prize and became the best-selling Swedish young adult novel of all time. Kadefors has also written a number of novels for adults,[2][1] including Fågelbovägen 32.[3]

Kadefors wrote the script for Allt du önskar, Sveriges Radio's Christmas Calendar for 2011.[4]

Sara Kadefors is a Swedish author, screenwriter, and film director known for her award-winning young adult novel Sandor slash Ida and her extensive work in Swedish television and film. Sara Kadefors began her professional career in journalism and broadcasting, working as a radio journalist and program host primarily for Sveriges Radio's P3 channel during the 1990s. She hosted several influential programs on P3, including Mamma Mia, Morgonpasset, Söndagsskolan, Vakna, and Iller, where she became known for delivering dry, sharp, and ironic commentary in her distinctive Göteborg dialect, contributing significantly to Swedish radio culture of the era. In addition to her radio work, Kadefors made occasional television appearances and contributions, most notably as a commentator on the long-running film review program Filmkrönikan. In 1996, she served as a staff writer for one episode of Filmkrönikan, specifically the Cannesfestival 1996 installment. Sara Kadefors made her literary debut in 2001 with the children's novel Långlördag i city. The novel has sold close to 200,000 copies in Sweden and is regarded as a modern classic that helped shape a new direction in Swedish young adult literature. Sandor slash Ida was later adapted into a 2005 film for which Kadefors wrote the screenplay. In 2006, Kadefors published her first adult novel, Fågelbovägen 32, followed by Borta bäst in 2009 and the children's book Nyckelbarnen in 2010. She continued with Kast med liten kniv in 2012, Lex bok in 2013 (nominated for the August Prize in the children's and young adult category), and the adult novel Hon som älskade honom in 2014. In 2016, she launched the Billie series for children and young adults with Billie. After a period focused on novels, Kadefors contributed to radio with the 2011 Christmas calendar Allt du önskar, which she wrote for Sveriges Radio.
