Key Information
Bakari Ward (born November 26, 1998), known professionally as Scorey or Scorey Ayee, is an American rapper and singer from Syracuse, New York. He was the first artist signed to Only Dreamers Achieve Records in 2020, a record label created by Chicago rapper Polo G.[1] Scorey describes Polo G as a mentor to him[2] and he has been described as a protégé of Polo G.[3] His second studio album "If You Feel Lost" released on March 21st 2025.
Early life
[edit]Ward grew up listening to rappers such as Lil Wayne, G Herbo and 50 Cent. He mimicked their style and freestyled with his friends. He began recording music in 2018 and taking it seriously in 2019.[2][4]
During his childhood he enjoyed playing basketball and played on a basketball team either from a club or school.
Ward's music is often influenced by his deceased friends. This includes a friend named Leah, who is referenced multiple times in his songs.[5] In addition, he references Zachary "Zuly" Holloway, who is featured in many of his early music videos. Ward's song "Victim" is filmed at a gathering for Holloway's passing.
When Ward was 21, he nearly died after taking fake Percocet pills that contained fentanyl. He was rushed to the hospital after he blacked out, and has since quit taking Percocet.[6]
Career
[edit]Scorey's debut single "Freddy Krueger", released on September 1, 2019, caught the attention of rapper Polo G who saw it posted on a friends Instagram story who was signed to the same label as Scorey. From there Polo G contacted him on Instagram. Days later, Polo G invited him to perform with him at Webster Hall in New York City, as part of his Die a Legend tour, along with rappers such as Yungeen Ace, Luh Kel, and Toosii. It was at this point that he also quit his summer job at Green Lakes State Park as a janitor, which helped pay for his studio sessions and videomaking.[4]
During the recording session for Scorey's single "Moods", Polo G asked him to join his startup record label Only Dreamers Achieve, a partnership with Columbia Records. He accepted and became the first artist signed to the label.[1] His single "Dior You" was the first release under the record label, released on March 12, 2021.[citation needed] He later featured in Polo G's third studio album Hall of Fame released in June 2021.[7]

Early life
Bakari Ward, professionally known as Scorey, was born on November 26, 1998, in Syracuse, New York.[8] He grew up in the city's urban neighborhoods, which he has described as the "regular trenches," a close-knit environment where "everybody knows each other" and the area can be traversed on foot in about 15 minutes.[9] As a child and teenager, Ward was immersed in Syracuse's local hip-hop and trap music scenes, initially engaging through informal freestyles with friends in the community who encouraged his above-average talent.[9] During this period, he also pursued basketball, playing on his high school team through 12th grade while navigating the influences of his working-class surroundings.[9]Personal life
Scorey has shown a dedication to supporting his local community through acts of philanthropy. In December 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he purchased numerous toys—including basketballs, soccer balls, and items for young children—from the Salvation Army's Amazon wishlist to aid Syracuse families in need for the holiday season. This gesture was motivated by his own experiences growing up in the city, where he frequently shopped at the organization's thrift store, even buying dress clothes there for a job interview.[5] His deep-rooted ties to Syracuse, the city of his birth and upbringing, continue to influence his personal commitments, serving as an ongoing anchor amid his rising profile.[5] A significant personal challenge came in May 2020, when Scorey lost his best friend, Zachary "Zuly" Holloway, to gun violence in Syracuse. This tragedy marked a turning point, prompting deeper reflection on life and loss while navigating the early stages of his fame from a small-city background.[9]Career
Beginnings and breakthrough (2018–2020)
Scorey began recording music in 2018 while still in high school in Syracuse, New York, where he gained initial studio experience by featuring on tracks from local rapper SKG Tunez.[10] These early collaborations allowed him to hone his production and rapping skills amid the city's burgeoning hip-hop scene, laying the groundwork for his independent releases. On April 29, 2019, Scorey released his debut album No Choice, a 12-track project that introduced his melodic trap sound through songs like "Consequences" featuring SKG Tunez and "Vent."[11] The album marked his transition from local features to solo artistry, reflecting themes of personal struggle and resilience rooted in trap influences. Later that year, on September 1, 2019, he dropped the single "Freddie Krueger," which garnered over 1.4 million YouTube views and caught the attention of Chicago rapper Polo G after appearing on a friend's Instagram story.[12] Polo G's co-sign propelled the track's visibility, boosting Scorey's profile from fewer than 1,000 Instagram followers to wider recognition. In 2020, following initial contact in 2019, Scorey became the first artist signed to Polo G's Capalot Records (operating as Only Dreamers Achieve or ODA), in partnership with Columbia Records.[13] The deal followed direct outreach from Polo G via Instagram direct message, which Scorey discovered upon waking, leading to an in-person meeting during Polo G's Die a Legend Tour in Manhattan, and solidified during sessions for the single "Moods."[9] This partnership provided major-label support and mentorship, accelerating his career trajectory. Early 2020 saw Scorey release the single "Storm" on June 3, a reflective track produced by JTK that addressed perseverance amid adversity and amassed streams on platforms like Spotify.[14] By the end of the year, these milestones contributed to his rising online presence, with his YouTube channel approaching 300,000 subscribers and videos like "Freddie Krueger" driving viral engagement.[12]Major releases and developments (2021–present)
Following his breakthrough with the 2020 single "Moods," which featured a cameo from Polo G in its music video, Scorey built on this collaboration through subsequent releases. During the recording sessions for "Moods," the connection with Polo G solidified, paving the way for Scorey's feature on the deluxe edition of Polo G's album Hall of Fame 2.0, released on December 3, 2021, where he appeared on the track "Broken Guitars." This partnership highlighted Scorey's growing integration into Polo G's circle and marked an early major development in his post-breakthrough career.[9][15] In late 2021, Scorey released his debut EP Catch Me If You Can on October 29, via Columbia Records, showcasing a shift toward melodic rap elements with tracks like the title single, "Love Letter," and "Rock N Roll." This EP, comprising five songs, demonstrated his evolving style, blending introspective lyrics with guitar-driven production, a departure influenced by the success of "Moods," which had positioned him as a melodic rapper. The project solidified his sound, drawing over 40 million streams for the lead single on Spotify as of 2025.[13] Entering 2022, Scorey continued this trajectory with the single "Oh Oh" on April 29, produced by Callari, which incorporated pop-infused melodies over his signature guitar loops and amassed millions of streams, further emphasizing his melodic evolution. This release served as a precursor to his debut studio album Help Is On The Way, dropped on December 9, 2022, featuring collaborations with Polo G on "Get Money" and Lil Poppa on "Oh Well," among 16 tracks that explored themes of perseverance and street life. The album, distributed through Columbia, helped Scorey reach over 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify by early 2023, underscoring its impact. A deluxe edition followed on March 19, 2023, expanding to 23 tracks and reinforcing his momentum with additional melodic cuts.[16][17][18][19][20] Throughout 2023 and 2024, Scorey maintained output with singles like "Die Young" (December 2021, but gaining traction later) and "Girls Love Rod Wave" (December 2022), which highlighted his refined melodic rap approach, prioritizing emotional delivery and hooks over aggressive flows. These efforts contributed to streaming milestones, with "Moods" surpassing 23 million plays on SoundCloud and broader catalog growth on platforms like Spotify. In industry developments, Scorey's affiliation with ODA/Columbia remained central, enabling consistent releases without major label expansions reported.[21][13] A significant milestone came in 2025 with the release of Scorey's second studio album If You Feel Lost on March 21, via Columbia Records, comprising 15 tracks that delved deeper into personal introspection and melodic storytelling, featuring production from rising beatmakers such as Berki and JMC. The project, long-awaited after nearly three years since his debut album, received acclaim for its emotional depth and marked a maturation in his artistry, with early streams indicating strong fan reception. A deluxe edition followed shortly after, adding additional tracks. Later in 2025, Scorey released features including "My Time" with Segzo in June and "Nights Like This" in September, continuing his output. While specific headline tours remain limited, Scorey has performed at select U.S. venues in support of these releases, including shows in New York and California as part of ongoing live engagements tied to his label promotion.[22][23][24][25][26][27]Musical style and artistry
Musical style
Scorey's musical style fuses trap and pop rap, distinguished by melodic singing layered over trap guitar beats that create an emotive, atmospheric soundscape.[28][13] This approach sets him apart in the hip-hop landscape, where his vocals often glide smoothly between rapped verses and sung hooks, emphasizing vulnerability and introspection.[29] His production techniques prioritize guitar-driven instrumentation, which adds a raw yet polished texture to tracks, enhancing the emotional depth without relying on overly aggressive percussion.[30] Lyrically, Scorey delves into themes of loss, fame, and relationships, crafting introspective narratives that reflect personal struggles and relational complexities. Songs like "Wraith" explore the costs of fame and grief over lost friends, with lines such as "From blood stains, bro ain't been the same since we lost him," underscoring the lingering impact of tragedy.[31] In tracks addressing relationships, such as "If You Feel Lost," he confronts heartbreak and addiction, questioning cycles of love with raw honesty: "Why when you fall in love with someone, you can't try again?"[32] These themes are delivered through auto-tune-infused melodies that amplify the confessional tone, a staple in his emotive delivery.[13] Scorey's style has evolved from the raw, aggressive trap of his early singles, exemplified by the hard-hitting flows in "Freddie Krueger" (2019), to a more refined, guitar-centric melodic rap in later works.[13] This progression is evident in his 2022 album Help Is on the Way, which incorporates pop rap sensibilities with trap foundations, featuring polished production that balances introspection with accessibility. This progression continued in his 2025 album If You Feel Lost, which maintains the guitar-centric, emotionally resonant sound while delving deeper into themes of self-discovery and resilience.[33][24] The shift highlights his growth toward a signature sound that prioritizes emotional resonance over street-oriented bravado.[13]Influences and collaborations
Scorey's musical influences are rooted in the Chicago drill and trap scenes, where he draws heavily from artists like Polo G, whose introspective lyricism and melodic delivery over trap beats have significantly shaped his own sound. Polo G's co-sign came early, as he discovered Scorey through his 2019 single "Freddie Krueger" and signed him as the first artist to his Only Dreamers Achieve (ODA) label in partnership with Columbia Records in 2020, providing mentorship that encouraged Scorey's shift toward emotional, melody-driven rap. This guidance helped refine Scorey's approach, blending raw trap elements with vulnerable storytelling to create a more accessible style amid the gritty drill influences prevalent in Chicago's hip-hop landscape.[9][13][34] Beyond Chicago's sound, Scorey pulls inspiration from the local Syracuse hip-hop community, a tight-knit scene emphasizing authenticity and personal narratives drawn from everyday struggles in upstate New York. Growing up in Syracuse's "regular trenches," he began rapping seriously in 2019, influenced by peers who pushed him to channel real-life experiences into his music rather than adopting stereotypical tough-guy personas. He also incorporates broader elements from pop rap, adopting versatile flows and emotional depth that echo mainstream trap's evolution into more melodic territory, allowing him to connect with wider audiences while staying grounded in regional roots.[9] Scorey's notable collaborations highlight his rising profile, starting with his feature on Polo G's 2021 track "Broken Guitars" from the album Hall of Fame, where his verse complemented Polo G's rock-infused production and marked a reciprocal nod to their mentor-protégé dynamic. On his own 2022 album Help Is On The Way, Polo G returned the favor with a guest appearance on "Get Money," a high-energy trap cut that showcases their shared affinity for promethazine-fueled introspection over booming beats, helping the project debut strongly on streaming charts. The album also includes a collaboration with Lil Poppa on "Goodbye," a poignant duet exploring heartbreak and loss, blending Scorey's melodic hooks with Lil Poppa's gritty Jacksonville trap style to underscore themes of emotional resilience. Additionally, Scorey has lent guest spots to emerging artists, such as his verse on Dro Kenji's 2021 single "Finders Keepers" alongside Internet Money, boosting the track's viral appeal and demonstrating his role in elevating up-and-coming talent within the melodic rap space. These partnerships not only amplify his reach but also reflect the collaborative ethos of modern trap, where mutual support drives artistic growth.[28][35][36]Online presence
Social media
Scorey established a strong online presence through his YouTube channel "Scorey Ayee," which has amassed over 310,000 subscribers and served as a primary platform for uploading original music videos, freestyle raps, and personal vlogs that showcased his creative process.[37][38] This channel played a key role in his early breakthrough, with videos like the 2019 release "Freddy Krueger" gaining traction and leading to industry connections, such as catching the eye of rapper Polo G through shares on Instagram stories.[39] Beyond YouTube, Scorey maintains active accounts on TikTok, Instagram (with approximately 299,000 followers as of November 2025), and Spotify (with approximately 1.0 million monthly listeners as of November 2025), where he shares song teasers, live performance clips, and direct fan interactions to build engagement and promote new releases.[40][41][42] These platforms have amplified viral moments, including the buzz around "Freddy Krueger," which originated from informal social shares and contributed to his signing with Capalot Records.[10] His Instagram, in particular, has been used to post snippets of unreleased tracks and behind-the-scenes glimpses from Syracuse, fostering a sense of authenticity tied to his roots.[39] Scorey's social media strategy emphasizes consistent, relatable content that ties into his music's emotional themes, driving follower growth and streaming metrics; for example, social promotions helped propel his Spotify monthly listeners to an average of 1.7 million by late 2021.[42] This direct engagement has also supported the development of dedicated fan communities around his work.Fan communities
Following Scorey's breakthrough in 2019, when he began releasing music and quickly gained traction in the hip-hop scene, dedicated fan communities emerged online to support his career, often highlighting his Syracuse origins and trap-influenced style featuring melodic guitar elements.[13][43] On Reddit, the primary hub is r/Scorey, a subreddit created in June 2020 dedicated to the Syracuse rapper, where fans discuss his releases, share Syracuse pride through local references in his lyrics, and analyze his trap rap production techniques.[44] A secondary community, r/scorey4ts, focuses on posting and debating his tracks, memes, and career updates, fostering deeper conversations among enthusiasts.[45] Twitter hosts notable fan pages like @ScoreyNews, an official fan account that curates the latest updates, news, and highlights from his discography to keep the community informed.[46] Similarly, Instagram features accounts such as @scholarscorey, which compile video clips, memes, and curated content celebrating his music and Syracuse heritage.[47] The Scorey Official Discord server, with over 2,475 members as of November 2025, serves as a real-time space for fans to connect, share reactions to new drops, and engage in discussions about his trap rap evolution, occasionally overlapping with his social media interactions for announcements.[48] These platforms emphasize collective support, with fans organizing informal virtual gatherings to celebrate milestones like album releases.Discography
Studio albums
Scorey's debut studio album, No Choice, was independently released on April 29, 2019, through Create Music Group. The project consists of 12 tracks and introduces his signature trap sound, characterized by introspective lyrics over hard-hitting beats.[11][10] Help Is On The Way, released on December 9, 2022, via Columbia Records, spans 16 tracks and features collaborations including Polo G on "Get Money." The album is noted for its emotional depth, exploring themes of personal struggle and resilience, and received a deluxe edition in 2023 with additional tracks.[21][18][49] Scorey's latest studio album, If You Feel Lost, was issued on March 21, 2025, also under Columbia Records. Comprising 15 tracks, it emphasizes maturity and introspection, delving into themes of self-reflection and growth amid life's uncertainties.[24][22]Extended plays
Scorey's extended plays function as concise interim projects that bridge his early singles and full-length albums, allowing him to experiment with melodic trap and pop rap influences while maintaining a focus on emotional, introspective themes. His first EP, Guardian Angel, was released on July 23, 2021, via Columbia Records and ODA. This 4-track project includes the title track as a tribute to his late friend, blending vulnerability with trap elements.[50][51] His next EP, Catch Me If You Can, was released on October 29, 2021, via Columbia Records and ODA. This 5-track release emphasizes high-energy trap production with catchy hooks and personal storytelling, marking a pivotal step in his transition to major-label artistry. The title track samples Juice WRLD's "Used To" for its melody, contributing to the project's blend of vulnerability and bravado.[52][53][54] In April 2022, Scorey released the singles "Oh Oh," "Girls Love Rod Wave," and "Die Young." These tracks explore pop rap elements through guitar-led beats and deceptively simple melodies, serving as a creative link to his subsequent album Help Is On The Way.[55]Singles as lead artist
Scorey's singles as lead artist have played a pivotal role in establishing his presence in the hip-hop and trap scenes, often blending introspective lyrics with melodic elements. His early releases gained traction through organic online sharing, while later tracks under Columbia Records reflect a more polished production style. Notable singles include breakthrough tracks from 2019–2020, the 2021 hit "Love Letter," 2024 releases like "Wildlife" featuring Sleepy Hallow, and a series of 2024–2025 releases that showcase his evolving sound. "Freddie Krueger," released on September 1, 2019, marked Scorey's debut single and breakthrough, going viral on YouTube after being shared on social media platforms, which caught the attention of rapper Polo G. The track's raw energy and storytelling about personal struggles contributed to its grassroots popularity, amassing significant streams independently before any label involvement.[56] "Moods," released on September 1, 2020, represented a melodic shift in Scorey's style, incorporating smoother flows and emotional depth; it was recorded with input from Polo G, who provided guidance during the session and appears in the music video cameo. This single solidified his transition toward more vulnerable themes, becoming one of his most streamed tracks to date with over 50 million Spotify plays.[57] "Storm," released on June 12, 2020, served as an early single following Scorey's signing to Only Dreamers Achieve Records (in partnership with Columbia), emphasizing themes of perseverance amid adversity with a trap-infused beat produced by JTK. The track's uplifting chorus and music video, directed by Trigg, highlighted his rising profile in the independent rap circuit.[14][58] "Love Letter," released on June 25, 2021, became a breakthrough pop rap track under Polo G's mentorship, showcasing emotional lyrics about relationships and gaining widespread streaming attention.[59] In 2024, Scorey released "Wildlife" on May 24, featuring Sleepy Hallow, a collaboration blending trap narratives with melodic flows over dynamic production. Later that year, "That's Hurt" on November 22, a brooding track produced by Adre and APGoKrazy, exploring heartbreak and resilience with introspective verses over a moody instrumental. "Al Capone," released on October 13, 2023, in collaboration with Segzo (where Scorey takes the lead vocal role), drew on gangster rap motifs with sharp lyricism and a hard-hitting beat by Aloe, marking a return to aggressive storytelling.[60][61][62] Entering 2025, Scorey issued several singles under Columbia, including "Dead Roses" on February 14, a poignant reflection on lost love produced by Adre Beats and Londn Blue, featuring vulnerable lines about regret and emotional decay. "Stayed For," released May 9 with producer Tao (billed as €ALOUR & Scorey, but led by Scorey's verses), delves into relationship dynamics with a melodic trap vibe. Finally, "NIGHTS LIKE THIS," out on September 5 with FLYKICKS (Scorey as co-lead), captures nostalgic late-night introspection over a hazy production, continuing his trend of blending rap with R&B influences. These releases have been included in broader projects like his album If You Feel Lost but stand as key standalone entries in his catalog.[63][64]| Title | Release Date | Label | Key Notes |

Singles as featured artist
Scorey has appeared as a featured artist on various singles, often blending his melodic trap style with other artists' sounds to contribute verses that emphasize emotional depth and street narratives. These collaborations, particularly during his early career, reflect his growing network in the hip-hop scene and his ability to adapt to different production aesthetics. A key early high-profile feature came through his mentorship with Polo G, culminating in his guest verse on "Broken Guitars" from Polo G's album Hall of Fame (2021). The track explores themes of personal growth and industry pressures, with Scorey's contribution adding a raw, introspective layer to the rock-infused beat.[71] During the recording sessions for Scorey's breakout single "Moods" (2020), Polo G provided guidance that helped shape Scorey's sound, though Scorey did not appear as a feature on any Polo G-led singles from that period.[10] Scorey's guest appearances extended to regional and emerging artists, showcasing his roots in Syracuse's local scene. In 2018–2019, prior to his debut album No Choice, he performed features on tracks by fellow Syracuse rapper SKG Tunez, gaining essential studio experience through these early collaborations on independent releases.[10] Later examples include the 2021 single "FINDERS KEEPERS" by Dro Kenji (with Internet Money), where Scorey delivers the chorus on a high-energy, drug-fueled anthem from the album With or Without You.[72] Similarly, on the 2022 remix of "Two Face" by Chibi LOL, Scorey's verse amplifies the song's distrustful tone amid trap production.[73] Regarding interactions with Lil Poppa, Scorey shared billing on the collaborative single "Goodbye" from his own album Help Is On The Way (2022), but no verified instances exist of Scorey as a guest on Lil Poppa-led singles from that project.[18] More recently, Scorey featured on "My Time (With Scorey)" by Segzo (2025), a reflective track highlighting perseverance that underscores his continued appeal in collaborative settings.[74]| Year | Song | Main Artist | Album/Single |
